Mets vs. Reds Game 35 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in 10 innings to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 18-17. RHP Zack Wheeler bounced back after his last outing and looked great through the first five innings, at one point retiring 12 in a row. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Wheeler ran into trouble after he walked LF Jesse Winker to lead off the inning, SS Jose Peraza followed with a bunt single and 1B Joey Votto drove in Winker with an RBI single. He then struck out catcher Eugenio Suarez, got 2B Alex Blandino to pop out and struck out catcher Tony Cruz to end the inning. His final line was: six innings, 4 hits, one run, three walks and seven strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning and followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Seth Lugo pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos gave up a walk-off homer to CF Adam Duvall to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning.

The offense had a strange incident in the top of the first inning after 2B Asdrubal Cabrera was called out after a double since he was hitting third in the lineup and the lineup card had his second. In the top of the third inning, CF Brandon Nimmo lead off the inning with a triple and Cabrera drove him in with an RBI groundout. After that, the bats went quiet and weren't able to score again. It's frustrating how they weren't build off their performance on Monday night. Hopefully they start to wake up and hit in Philadelphia this weekend.

The Mets have an off day tomorrow and head to Philadelphia on Friday for a three game series against the Phillies.
