The New York Mets are called up 1B Dom Smith to fill the open roster spot left by the absence of RF Jay Bruce who is going on paternity leave this weekend. Bruce will miss this weekend's series against the Philadelphia Phillies and will be his wife for the birth of his second child. Smith injured his quad running out a base hit in his first Grapefruit League at-bat this spring and did not make the team out of spring training. He is hitting .278 with two homers, twelve RBI's and eight doubles with Triple-A Las Vegas this year.
