LHP P.J. Conlon made his ML debut in place of RHP Jacob deGrom. Conlon started out well with two scoreless innings, but gave up a solo homer to CF Billy Hamilton in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, he ran into trouble after he gave doubles to 3B Eugenio Suarez and SS Scooter Gennett and another RBI later in the inning to catcher Tucker Barnhart. He was taken out in the bottom of the fourth inning after he walked pinch hitter Alex Blandino. His final line was: 3.2 innings, 4 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Paul Sewald came in next and retired Hamilton to end the bottom of the fourth inning and pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Sewald gave up a homer to Suarez and later gave up back-to-back singles to LF Adam Duvall and Barnhardt and was taken out with only out. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and gave up a sacrifice fly to pinch-hitter Scott Schebler. Gsellman came back out for the bottom of the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he gave up a solo homer to Gennett with one out. Gsellman was able to settle down and retired Duvall and Barnhardt to end the inning. His final line was: 2.2 innings, 1 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks and 0 walks and picked his fourth win on the season. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning with two strikeouts and recorded his 10th save on the season.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at 7:10 P.M. against the Reds.
