The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 5-1 tonight and dropped their record to 25-19. RHP Zack Wheeler started out well with a scoreless top of the first inning, but struggled in the top of the second inning. In the top of the second, Wheeler gave up a leaoff double to RF Brian Anderson and back-to-back singles to LF Derek Dietrich and SS Miguel Rojas. 3B Jose Reyes made an error and catcher J.T. Realmunto hit a two-run single. He settled down after that and had 1-2-3 innings in the top of the third and fourth innings. In the top of the fifth inning, Wheeler worked his way out of trouble after he gave up a single to 1B Justin Bour and then 2B Starlin Castro reached on a throwing error by Reyes. He finished up his outing with a 1-2-3 top of the sixth inning. His final line was three runs (one earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts in six innings. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP A.J. Ramos gave up a two-run homer to Dietrich in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The offense struggled against Marlins starter LHP Caleb Smith and managed four hits for the entire game. Catcher Tomas Nido drove in the only run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night in the final game of the series against the Marlins at 7:10 P.M.
