RHP Jacob deGrom |
The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 today in the series finale of their rain shortened series and dropped their record to 19-18. RHP Jacob deGrom got into immediate trouble walking 2B Cesar Hernandez, RF Aaron Alther and CF Odubel Herrera. deGrom responded by striking out LF Rhys Hoskins, got 1B Carlos Santana to ground into a fielder's choice to and struck out 3B Maikel Franco to end the inning and gave up no runs. He wound up throwing 45 pitches in the bottom of the first inning and was then taken out because he threw so many pitches in the inning and is coming off an injury. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and threw three scoreless innings. RHP Paul Sewald followed and had a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning, but struggled in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sewald gave up a double to Santana to lead off the inning and then later walked 3B Scott Kingery. He gave up a three-run homer to pinch-hitter Nick Williams with two outs. RHP A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia gace up a homer to Santana in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The offense had several opportunities to score, but weren't able to capitalize with runners in scoring position. They left eight runners on base and couldn't get any consistency with timely hits. LF Yoenis Cespedes drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera drove in CF Brandon Nimmo with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning.
The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:10 P.M.
