Mets Lose to Phillies 7-2 in Final Home Game of the season

The New York Mets lost to the Phildelphia Phillies 7-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to split their four game series in the final home game of the season and dropped their record to 71-85.

Mets RHP Jonah Tong had a tough top of the first and gave up two runs.

Tong had a 1-2-3 top of the second and then gave up two more runs in the top of the third.

He had a scoreless top of the fourth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fifth.

Tong's final line was 4.2 innings, five hits, four runs, four walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Jonathan Weisenberger came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Jefry Yan followed and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Kodai Senga came in next and gave up three runs in the top of the eighth on a bases clearing triple by CF Justin Crawford and was then taken out.

RHP Austin Warren had to come in and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until 3B Bo Bichette hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, pinch hitter Brett Baty hit a RBI single.

The Met offense was unable to come up with timely hits and they went 1-9 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, September 22 at the Texas Rangers at 8:05 p.m, in their second-to-last series of the year.

Mets Rout Phillies 10-3 Powered By Alvarez Three-Run Homer

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 10-3 this afternoon at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 71-84.

After a scorless bottom of the first, RF Carson Benge homered to lead off the bottom of the second.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next two innings until the bottom of the fifth, after 2B Marcus Semien led off with a walk and then 1B Brett Baty followed with a single and then catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the sixth, Benge walked with one out and then CF A.J. Ewing followed with a single and Semien then walked to load the bases.

Baty then drove in Benge with a RBI single and two batters later, DH Ronny Maurico drew a based loaded walk to bring in Ewing.

After a scoreless bottom of the seventh, Semien singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth and then Baty followed with a walk and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.

Two batters later, Mauricio was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then Lindor drew a based loaded walk to bring in a run. LF Juan Soto followed with a RBI single to score Baty.  3B Bo Bichette then hit a RBI single to score pinch-runner Nick Morabito.

Benge followed with an infield hit to score Lindor.

Mets RHP Christian Scott dominated through the first three innings with five strikeouts, but then ran into trouble in the top of the fourth.

Scott gave up a lead-off ground-rule double to RF Bryce Harper and two batters later, a RBI single to 1B Alec Bohm.

In the top of the fifth, Scott gave up a one-out double to DH Kyle Schwarber and then a single to SS Trea Turner who then stole second. Scott gave up a sacrifice fly to Harper and was then taken out.

LHP Jeffry Yan came in next and gave up a single to 2B Luis Arraez and walked Bohm and then retired 3B Bryson Stott on a ground-out to end the inning.

Yan came back out for the top of the sixth and had a 1-2-3 inning. He picked up his second win.

LHP Cionel Perez followed and picked up first two outs in the top of the seventh. 

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came in next and picked up last out in the seventh.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and threw scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Tobias Myers closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

Mets Beat Phillies 6-3 Powered By Juan Soto Three-Run Homer And Strong Outing From Zac Thornton

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 tonight at Citi Field to snap their five-game losing streak and improved their record to 70-84.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and two batters later, 3B Bo Bichette singled to advance Lindor to third.

RF Carson Benge followed with a RBI single to score Lindor and then DH Mark Vientos followed with a walk to load the bases.

CF A.J. Ewing came up next and drove in Benge and Bichette with a two-run single.

The offense was held scoreless for the next five innings until the bottom of the sixth after 2B Marcus Semien led off with an infield single and two batters later, catcher Luis Torrens singled. Two batters later, LF Juan Soto came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton had a scoreless top of the first and then gave up a RBI double to 3B Bryson Stott in the top of the second.

Thornton settled down after that and threw scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourh and fith innings and then gave up a solo homer to LF Edmundo Sosa in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

Thornton's final line was six innings, five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.40.

LHP Nate Lavender came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a one-out solo homer to CF Derek Hill and then came back to retire the next four hitters he faced before being taken out with two outs in the top of the eighth.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and picked up the last out in the eighth and then closed it out with a 1-2-3 1-2-3 top of the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

Mets Shutout By Phillies 3-0 And Waste Stellar Effort By Nolan McLean

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 tonight at Citi Field for their fifth consecuitve loss and dropped their record to 69-84.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean cruised through the first four innings, but then ran into trouble in the top of the fifth. 

McLean gave up a a lead-off single to LF Brandon Marsh and later in the inning, gave up back-to-back walks to load the bases. McLean then gave up an infield hit to RF Bryce Harper where SS Francisco Lindor made a throw to second base that was too late which allowed Marsh to score. McLean was able to espcape out of the inning without further trouble after he retired 2B Luis Arraez to line out to left field.

In the top of the sixth, McLean and 1B Jared Young dealt with a scary situation after Young was kneed in the head by McLean. Young was down on the field for several minutes and was taken off the field by a stretcher and removed from the field on a cart. Fortunately, Young had feelings in his extremities and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. 

McLean was taken out after the top of the sixth. His final line was six innings, seven hits, one run, three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Tobias Myers came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a one-out walk to SS Trea Turner and was then let down by his defense after catcher Francisco Alvarez made an error on a pick-off throw to first which allowed Turner to advance to third. Myers then walked Harper and gave up a sacrifice fly to 2B Luis Arraez.

Myers stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off double to 3B Bryson Stott and later in the inning, a sacrifice fly to CF Jusin Crawford.

In the top of the ninth, Austin Warren threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense was shutdown by RHP Aaron Nola and was held hitless for the first five innings and in the bottom of the sixth, LF Nick Morabito singled with one out for the first hit of the game to make runners on first and second, but then Lindor grounded into a double play to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, RF Carson Benge and 1B Mark Vientos singled with two outs, but then CF A.J. Ewing grounded out to second to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, 2B Brett Baty and Lindor walked, but DH Juan Soto groundd out to first to end the inning.

The offense was unable to come up with any timely hits and they went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

Mets Lose to Orioles 7-1 After Allowing Four Homers

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 tonight at Citi Field to be swept in the three-game series and fourth consecutive loss overall to drop their record to 69-83.

Mets RHP Xzavion Curry made the start in place of RHP Robert Stock who was placed on the IL got into immeidiate trouble in the top of the first aftter he gave up a solo homer to 1B Pete Alonso.

Curry's struggles continued in the top of the second after he gave up a two-run homer to 2B Jeremiah Jackson.

It all imploded for Curry in the top of the third after he gave up a two-run homer to 3B Christian Encarncacion-Strand and a solo homer to the next hitter catcher Samuel Basallo and then Curry was taken out after the inning.

Curry's final line was three innings, six hits, six runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

LHP Jefrey Yan followed with three scoreless innings in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Mets RHP Jack Weisenburger came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth and then gave up a run in the top of the ninth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a RBI single by 2B Marcus Semien in the bottom of the fourth.

They had seven hits and went 1-5 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-5 in 11 innings tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 69-82.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea started out well with a scoreless top of the first and then in the top of the second, gave up solo homers to 3B Christian Encarcaction-Strand and 2B Jeramiah Jackson.

Manaea was able to settle down after that and threw scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth, and fifth innings and was taken out with one out in the top of the sixth.

His final line was 5.1 innings, four hits, two runs, 0 walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren came in next and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Nate Lavender followed and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the top of the ninth and had his first blown save of the season after he gave up a game-tying homer to former Met 1B Pete Alonso.

RHP Daniel Duarte followed in the top of the tenth and gave up a run on a wild pitch.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came on in the top of the eleventh and gave up a three-run inside the park homer to DH Coby Mayo that CF A.J. Ewing nearly made an outstanding catch on.

In the bottom of the first, LF Juan Soto singled with one out and then 3B Bo Bichette followed with a single and then RF Carson Benge walked to load the bases. 1B Jared Young came up next and drove in Soto with a sacrfice fly.

In the bottom of the second, CF A.J. Ewing led off with a bunt single and then 1B Brett Baty followed with a single. Three batters later, Soto drove in Ewing with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Benge led off with a homer.

The Met offense was held scorless for the next six innings until the bottom of the tenth after 2B Marcus Semien hit a RBI double to tie the game to score Benge who started out on second as the ghost runner.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Bichette drove in catcher Francisco Alvarez with a RBI single with two outs, but then Bnege flew out to end the game.

The Met offense was unable to come up with any timely hits all night and went 3-16 with runners in scoring position leaving 13 runners on base.

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 69-81.

Mets RHP Jonah Tong made his second start of the season and had an outstanding start outside of a RBI double by RF Heston Kjerstad in the top of the second.

Tong's final line was six innings, four hits, one run, (0 earned runs), one walk and six strikeouts. Tong had outstanding movement and command of his fastball and change-up. He lowered his ERA to 3.43.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next in the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to SS Gunnar Henderson.

RHP Kodai Senga followed in the top of the ninth and worked around runners on the corner with one out by getting back-to-back strikeouts.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by CF A.J. Ewing in the bottom of the fourth.

They managed only six hits and were unable to get any clutch hits with men on base. They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base,

The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 2-0 at Yankee Stadium this afternoon to lose two out of thee games in the series and dropped their record to 69-80.

Mets RHP Christian Scott got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Ben Rice.

Scott had a scoreless bottom of the second and then gave up another solo homer to catcher Austin Wells in the bottom of the third.

Scott did a fine job other than the two solo homers and finished up strong with scoreless innings in teh bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth.

His final line was six innings, three hits, two runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

LHP Nate Lavender followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Austin Warren came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was dominated by Yankees ace RHP Cam Schlittler who threw six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and gave up only one hit. They were unable to score against relievers RHP Brent Hendrick, Paul Blackburn and closer David Bednar.

They managed only three hits and were 0-2 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

Mets Rout Yankees 12-2 Powered By Six Homers and Outstanding Start From Zac Thornton

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 12-2 this afternoon at Yankee Stadium and improved their record to 69-79.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer to right field for the 19th homer of the season and his fifth lead-off homer of the season.

In the top of the second, 1B Jared Young led off with a single and three batters later, catcher Luis Torrens hit a two-run homer.

In the top of the third, RF Carson Benge hit a solo homer. 

After a scoreless top of the fourth, DH Juan Soto doubled to lead off the top of the fifth and two batters later, Benge drove in Soto with a RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, Soto hit a solo homer for his 25th homer of the season.

In the top of the eighth, 2B Marcus Semien singled with two outs and then CF A.J. Ewing followed with a walk. Torrens then drove in Semien with a RBI double.

LF Nick Morabito followed with a walk to load the bases and then Lindor came up next and broke the game open with a grand slam to right center for his second homer.

In the top of the ninth, 1B Jared Young hit a solo homer.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton bounced back after the worst start of his young career and cruised through the first three innings retiring nine consecutive hitters to start his outing and then ran into some trouble in the bottom of the fourth. Thornton gave up a lead-off double to 1B Paul Goldscmidt and two batters later, a RBI single to LF Cody Bellinger.

Thornton came back to retire the next two hitters he faced and then threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth.

He gave up a solo homer to Bellinger in the bottom of the sixth and then got into a jam in the bottom of the seventh after he gave a one-out single to CF Spencer Jones and a walk to SS George Lombardi Jr. Manager Andy Green came out to talk to Thornton and then Thornton was able to get 2B Anthony Volpe to ground into a 5-4-3 double play and finish his outing on a high note.

Thornton's final line was seven innings, five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.44.

RHP Tobias Myers came in next and closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth.

Mets Lose to Yankees 6-4 After Nolan McLean Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 6-4 tonight at Yankee Stadium to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 68-79.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after he loaded the bases on two singles and a walk to the first three hitters he faced. McLean was able to get a line-out, but then gave up a RBI single to CF Spencer Jones. McLean got out of further trouble after the next hitter SS George Lombard Jr grounded into a double play.

McLean retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the second, but then gave up back-to back singles to 2B Anthony Volpe and DH Ben Rice and then gave up a three-run homer to LF Cody Bellinger on a hanging curveball.

McLean was able to settle down by getting a scoreless inning in the bottom of the third and a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, McLean gave up a lead-off homer to Rice and then McLean was taken out after the inning.

McLean's final line was five innings, 10 hits, five runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

RHP Jack Weisenburger came in next and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh and then gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single by 3B Ryan McMahon.

The Met offense was held scoreless in the top of the first, but in the top of the second, DH Mark Vientos led off with a walk and two batters later, 2B Marcus Semien singled and reached second on an error by Jones. DH Chirstopher Morel followed with a RBI ground-out.

The offense was held scoreless for the next four innings until the top of the seventh after RF Carson Benge singled with one out and then Semien followed with a walk. 

Two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing drove in Benge with a RBI single and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a walk to load the bases with two outs. However, SS Francisco Lindor hit a hard liner back at new reliever RHP Brent Hendrick to end the threat.

In the top of the of the eighth, 3B Bo Bichette singled with one out and then Vientos and Benge walked to load the bases. Semien then drove in Bichette with a sacrifice fly, but 1B Jared Young flew out to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Ewing led off with a homer and two batters later, Lindor singled. LF Juan Soto came up next as the tying run, but grounded into a double play to end the game.

The Met offense was unble to come up with a timely hit and they went 1-6 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

 CF A.J. Ewing then drove in Ewing with a RBI single and 1B Brett Baty followed by driving in Semien with a RBI single. Baty then left the game with a leg injury after his single after he was limping after rounding first base and was replaced by Christopher Morel.

Catcher Luis Torrens came up next and drove in Ewing and Morel with a two-run double. Lindor followd with a hit by pitch and two batters later, 3B Bo Bichette drove in Torrens with a RBI single. RF Carson Benge followed with a RBI ground-out to score Lindor.

In the top of the third, Ewing singled and stole second with one out and then Morel hit a two-run homer.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next four nnings until the top of the seventh after Benge led off with a hit by pitch and then Young and Semien followed with walks to load the bases.

Ewing then drove in Benge with a sacrfice fly and Morel followed by driving in Young with a RBI single. 

Torrens followed by driving in Semien with a RBI single and then Lindor came up next and hit a three-run homer.

In the top of the eighth, Young led off with a single and two batters later, Ewing singled. Later in the inning, Young and Ewing advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and then Torrens reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Mets RHP Robert Stock started out well with three scoreless innings and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth. Stock gave up a lead-off hit by pitch and then gave up a single and walk to load the bases. He then gave up a RBI single to 3B Graham Pauley and a two-run single to catcher Joe Mack and was taken out after the inning.

Stock's final line was four innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren followed in the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP  Chris Devenski came in next in the bottom of the sixth and gave up three runs and was taken out with one out in the inning. RHP Daniel Duarte followed and gave up two more runs, but was able to get last two outs to end the inning. All five runs were charged to Devenski.

Duarte stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to Mack. Duarte picked up his second save of the season.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed in the bottom of the eighth and gave up back-to-back RBI singles to RF Owen Caissie and Paueley.

LHP Nate Lavender came on in the bottom of the ninth and had his worst outing of the season allowing three runs over 0.1 innings and was taken out. RHP Tobias Myers followed and was able to get the last two outs to pickc up his second save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, September 11 for the first game of a three-game Subway Series at the Yankees at Yankee Stadium at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Hang On To Beat Marlins 7-5 Powered By Three Homers

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 7-5 tonight at loanDepot Park for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 67-78.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer and then LF Juan Soto and 3B Bo Bichette followed with walks.

Two batters later, 1B Jared Young drove in Soto with a RBI single.

In the top of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez singled with one out and then Lindor was hit by a pitch.

LF Juan Soto came up next and hit a three-run homer.

In the top of the third, 3B Brett Baty hit a solo homer.

In the top of the fifth, Young led off with a walk and two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing doubled to advance Young to third,

Baty followed with a sacrifice fly to score Young.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea dominated through the first five innings with five perfect innings after he retired the first 15 hitters he faced, however it all imploded for him in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea gave up a lead-off bloop single by 2B CF Jakob Marsee who hit an infield hit and then reached second after Baty made an error.

Manaea then gave up back-to-back RBI doubles to 2B Jared Serna and catcher Brian Navarrerto.

Manaea gave up a single to the following hitter LF Heriberto Hernandez and a RBI single to SS Otto Lopez and was then taken out.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came in next and after getting a double play grounder, gave up a RBI single to 3B Javier Sanoja, but was able to get out of the inning without allowing any more runs and then the rest of the bullpen dominated after that.

Manaea's final line was five innings, five hits, four runs, 0 walks and four strikeouts. 

LHP Nate Lavender followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a run on two hits, but was able to strike out the last two hitters he faced to pick up his seventh save.

Mets Beat Marlins 9-4 Behind Three RBI Game From A.J. Ewing and seven strikeouts from Jonah Tong

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 9-4 this afternoon at loanDepot Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 66-78.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the second after DH Juan Soto singled with one out and then 3B Bo Bichette grounded into a fielder's choice, but Soto was able to come around and score after 2B Javier Saanoja made a throwing error into left field.

RF Carson Benge followed with a walk and later in the inning, Bichette scored on an error by catcher Joe Mack.

In the top of the second, 1B Brett Baty doubled with one out and then LF Nick Morabito drove in Baty with a RBI single.

In the top of the third, 2B Marcus Semien followed with a double and then CF A.J. Ewing followed by reaching on an infield hit to first. Ewing was then picked off, but catcher Francisco Alvarez came up next and drove in Semien with a RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and Soto followed with a single. RF Carson Benge then reached first on a fielder's choice.  Bichette then drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

Three batters later, Ewing drove in Benge and Soto with a two-run double to the opposite field.

In the top of the sixth, Benge singled with one out and Semien followed with a RBI double. Ewing then drove in Semien with a RBI single to score Semien for his third RBI of the game.

Mets RHP Jonah Tong made his first start of the season and had a dominating bottom of the first striking out the side.

Tong struck out the first hitter he faced in the bottom of the second and then gave up a single, RBI triple, walk and then a three-run homer to 3B Graham Pauley.

Tong was able to settle down after that retiring the next two hitters he faced to end the inning and then had a 1-2-3 bottom of the third.

He finished up strong with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was taken out after the bottom of the fifth.

Tong's final line was five innings, four hits, four runs, one walk and seven strikeouts. He picked up his second win of the season.

RHP Dedneil Nunez came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Chris Devenski followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Daniel Duarte threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 65-78.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first seven innings and then came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

Pinch-hitter Brett Baty led off with a homer and then CF A.J. Ewing followed with a single. 

Catcher Luis Torrens then hit a sacrifice bunt to move Ewing to second and SS Francisco Lindor lined out to right field.

DH Juan Soto was then intentionally walked and 3B Bo Bichette came up next and delivered a game-winning three-run homer.

Mets RHP Chrisitian Scott dominated through the first 3.2 innings retiring his 11 hitters, but then with two outs in the top of the fourth, gave up thee straight singles which lead to two runs.

Scott was able to limit the damage in the top of the fourth and was taken out in the top of the fifth with two outs after picking up two strikeouts.

Scott's final line was 4.2 innings, four hits, two runs, 0 walks and seven strikeouts.

LHP Nate Lavender followed and picked up last out in the top of the fifth.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

RHP Tobias Myers followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth. He picked up his first win of the season.

Mets Lose To Giants 9-5 After Allowing Six Homers

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 9-5 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and improved their record to 64-78.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton got off to a tough start in the top of the first after gave up a solo homer to 1B Rafael Devers.

Thornton was able to bounce back with a scoreless top of the second, but then ran into trouble again in the top of the third after he gave up a lead-off single to RF Gtant McCray and then a two-run homer to the following hitter SS Christian Kloss.

Thornton was able to settle down retiring the side in the inning and then struck out the side in the top of the fourth.

However it all unravled for Thornton in the top of the fifth after he retired the first two hitters he faced and then allowed a solo homer to Kloss, his second homer of the game and then gave up a single to CF Jonah Cox.

Thornton then gave up a two-run homer to Devers, his second homer of the game as well and then Thornton was taken out after the inning.

Thornton's final line was five innings, seven hits, six runs, one walk and six strikeouts.

RHP Chris Devinksi followed and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

LHP Jefry Yan came in next in the top of the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to 2B Osleivis Basabe.

RHP Justin Hagenman followed in the top of the ninth and gave up a solo homer to McCray.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by CF A.J. Ewing in the bottom of the second.

They had a chance to score in the bottom of the seventh after loading the bases on two singles and a walk with one out, but then after catcher Francisco Alvarez struck out, 3B Brett Baty drew a walk to bring in a run and then SS Francisco Lindor grounded out to first to end the inning.

The offense had five hits for the entire game and went 1-5 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 10-6 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 64-77.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and two batters later, 3B Bo Bichette walked. 1B Mark Vientos followed with a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer with one out and CF Nick Morabito followed with a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Lindor then reached on an error and LF Juan Soto grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in a run and then stole second.

Bichette came up next and hit a two-run homer.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the bottom of the sixth after 1B Jared Young led off with a walk and three batters later, Lindor hit a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alvarez led off with a homer for his second homer of the game.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean cruised through the first two innings and then ran into trouble in the top of the third.

McLean gave up a walk to SS Christian Koss and then gave up a single to hit to CF Drew Gilbert and a two-run double to the following hitter 1B Rafael Devers and was able to get out of the inning without any further damage.

McLean gave up back-to-back singles to start the top of the fourth and then retired the next three hitters he faced.

McLean got into trouble to start the top of the fifth with a lead-off double and then gave up a walk and single to load the bases.

He was able to get out of trouble with a strikeout and 4-6-3 double play.

McLean came back out for the top of the sixth and finished up strong with a 1-2-3 inning with a strike-out to end the inning.

His final line was six innings, six hits, two runs, four walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his 11th win.

LHP Jefry Yan came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a run in 0.2 innings and was then taken out.

RHP Austin Warren followed and picked up last out in the inning. Warren came back out for the top of the eighth and retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up back-to-back singles and a three-run homer to Devers and was taken out after that.

RHP Robert Stock came in next and gave up a double before getting a lineout to end the inning.

Mets Rout Rays 10-4 Behind 3 RBI From Brett Baty and Nick Morabito

The New York Mets beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-4 tonight at Tropicana Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 63-77.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after DH Juan Soto singled with one out, but was then thrown out at second base after 3B Bo Bichette grounded into a fielder's choice.

RF Carson Benge followed with a walk and then 1B Jared Young hit a single, but catcher Liam Hicks was unable to hold onto the ball when tagging Bichette and the ball went away, which allowed Benge to score and Young to advanc to second. 2B Marcus Semien followed with a RBI double to score Young.

After a scoreless top of the second, Bichette singled to lead off the top of the third and later in the inning, Bichette stole second and three batters later, Semien walked. CF A.J. Ewing followed with an infield hit to load the bases.

LF Brett Baty then capped off the inning with a bases clearing double to score Bichette, Ewing and Semien.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the seventh after Bichette led off with a double and then Benge followed with a single.

Two batters later, Semien walked to load the bases then pinch-hitter Nick Morabito came up who was just put in the game as a pinch-hitter and broke the game open with a bases clearing double for his firsr career hit.

In the top of the eighth, DH Juan Soto hit a solo homer.

RHP Justin Hagenman made his first appearance of the season and allowed one run on two hits in three innings. He gave up one walk with two strikeouts.

RHP Chris Devenski came in next in the bottom of the fourth and after retiring the first two hitters allowed three runs on three hits and was then taken out.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and picked up last out in the bottom of the fourth and stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning and was then taken out. He picked up his first win of the season.

LHP Nate Lavender came in next and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Daniel Duarte followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

Mets Lose to Rays 6-2 Due to Struggles By Manaea and Lack of Offense

The New York Mets lost to the Tampa Bays Rays 6-2 tonight at Tropicana Field and dropped their record to 62-77.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea got into immidiate trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to DH Yandy Diaz and two batters later, a RBI single to 3B Junior Caminero.

Manaea had a scoreles bottom of the second, but ran into trouble in the third after he gave up a lead-off single by RF Victor Mesa Jr, gave up a sacifice bunt and then walked Diaz and gave up a RBI single by 1B Ryan Vilade.

Manaea was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and then it all imploded for him in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea gave up a lead-off single by LF Chandler Simpson and then a RBI double to the following hitter catcher Nick Fortes.

After a ground-out, Manaea gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Taylor Walls and then a solo homer to Diaz and a triple to Vilade and was then taken out.

Manaea's final line was 5.2 innings, 11 hits, five runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren came in next and picked up last out in the inning.

RHP Dylan Ross followed in the bottom of the seventh in his season debut and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Jefty Yan came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a single and double and two outs, was by a line drive on a comebacker and then tried to get the runner out at home but was unable to do so.

The offense did not do much for the next few innings and then had a golden opportunity to score in the top of the seventh after Young led off with a walk and 2B Marcus Semien followed with a walk. Two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing walked to load the bases with one out.

Pinch-hittera Mark Vientos came up and fouled out to the catcher and then Lindor drew a based loaded walk. DH Juan Soto came up next with the based loaded and two outs, but popped out to third.

The Met offense struggled all night with men on base and were unable to come up with any clutch hits and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.
