Mets Rout Rays 10-4 Behind 3 RBI From Brett Baty and Nick Morabito

The New York Mets beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-4 tonight at Tropicana Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 63-77.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after DH Juan Soto singled with one out, but was then thrown out at second base after 3B Bo Bichette grounded into a fielder's choice.

RF Carson Benge followed with a walk and then 1B Jared Young hit a single, but catcher Liam Hicks was unable to hold onto the ball when tagging Bichette and the ball went away, which allowed Benge to score and Young to advanc to second. 2B Marcus Semien followed with a RBI double to score Young.

After a scoreless top of the second, Bichette singled to lead off the top of the third and later in the inning, Bichette stole second and three batters later, Semien walked. CF A.J. Ewing followed with an infield hit to load the bases.

LF Brett Baty then capped off the inning with a bases clearing double to score Bichette, Ewing and Semien.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the seventh after Bichette led off with a double and then Benge followed with a single.

Two batters later, Semien walked to load the bases then pinch-hitter Nick Morabito came up who was just put in the game as a pinch-hitter and broke the game open with a bases clearing double for his firsr career hit.

In the top of the eighth, DH Juan Soto hit a solo homer.

RHP Justin Hagenman made his first appearance of the season and allowed one run on two hits in three innings. He gave up one walk with two strikeouts.

RHP Chris Devenski came in next in the bottom of the fourth and after retiring the first two hitters allowed three runs on three hits and was then taken out.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and picked up last out in the bottom of the fourth and stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning and was then taken out. He picked up his first win of the season.

LHP Nate Lavender came in next and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Daniel Duarte followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action back at home at Citi Field on Friday, September 4 against the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
