Mets Lose To Orioles 7-5 in 11 Innings And Pete Alonso Hits Game-Tying Homer

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-5 in 11 innings tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 69-82.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea started out well with a scoreless top of the first and then in the top of the second, gave up solo homers to 3B Christian Encarcaction-Strand and 2B Jeramiah Jackson.

Manaea was able to settle down after that and threw scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth, and fifth innings and was taken out with one out in the top of the sixth.

His final line was 5.1 innings, four hits, two runs, 0 walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren came in next and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Nate Lavender followed and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the top of the ninth and had his first blown save of the season after he gave up a game-tying homer to former Met 1B Pete Alonso.

RHP Daniel Duarte followed in the top of the tenth and gave up a run on a wild pitch.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came on in the top of the eleventh and gave up a three-run inside the park homer to DH Coby Mayo that CF A.J. Ewing nearly made an outstanding catch on.

In the bottom of the first, LF Juan Soto singled with one out and then 3B Bo Bichette followed with a single and then RF Carson Benge walked to load the bases. 1B Jared Young came up next and drove in Soto with a sacrfice fly.

In the bottom of the second, CF A.J. Ewing led off with a bunt single and then 1B Brett Baty followed with a single. Three batters later, Soto drove in Ewing with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Benge led off with a homer.

The Met offense was held scorless for the next six innings until the bottom of the tenth after 2B Marcus Semien hit a RBI double to tie the game to score Benge who started out on second as the ghost runner.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Bichette drove in catcher Francisco Alvarez with a RBI single with two outs, but then Bnege flew out to end the game.

The Met offense was unable to come up with any timely hits all night and went 3-16 with runners in scoring position leaving 13 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 16 at home against the Orioles at 7:10 p.m.
