The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after SS Francisco Lindor singled with two outs and then DH Juan Soto followed with a two-run homer.
The offense was held scoreless for the next five innings until the top of the eighth after 2B Marcus Semien hit a go-ahead solo homer.
In the top of the ninth, LF Nick Morabito singled with one out and two batters later, Soto was intentionally walked.
3B Bo Bichette followed with a walk and then pinch-hitter Brett Baty came up next in place of 1B Mark Vientos and broke the game open with a grand slam.
Mets RHP Nolan McLean dominated through the first four innings retiring the first 12 consecuitve hitters he faced, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth.
McLean gave up a lead-off single to LF Brandon Nimmo and after a ground-out, allowed a RBI single to 1B Jake Burger.. McLean then gave up another single and walk to load the bases with one out and then gave up a sacrifice fly to CF Evan Carter, but did not allow any more runs in the inning and was able to keep the game tied.
McLean came back out for the bottom of the sixth and had a 1-2-3 inning on five pitches and then finished up strong with another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh needing only eight pitches.
His final line was seven innings, three hits, two runs, one walk and five strikeouts.
McLean finished up his season with a 12-10 record and 3.16 ERA in 31 starts.
RHP Devin Williams came in next in the bottom of the eighth in his first appearance since coming off the IL and had a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.
LHP Cionel Perez followed in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless inning.
The Mets next gane is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, September 24 at the Rangers at 2:35 p.m.
