It came apart for McLean in the top of the fourth after he gave up a two-run single to RF Spencer Steer and a two-run homer to the following catcher Tyler Stephenson and was then taken out.

McLean's final line was 3.1 scoreless innings, five hits, seven runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren came in next with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Jonathan Pinataro followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 2-1 tonight at loanDepot Park and dropped their record to 22-29.

Mets RHP Tobias Myers got the start as an "opener" and threw a scoreless bottom of the first. Myers came back out for the bottom of the second and gave up a one-out double to LF Estuery Ruiz and was taken out.

LHP Sean Manaea came in next and then Ruiz stole third and Manaea gave up a RBI ground-out.

Manaea was able to retire the next seven hitters he faced, but in the bottom of the fourth he gave up a two-out triple to Ruiz and a RBI single to RF Owen Cassie.

Manaea stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning and was then taken out.

His final line was 3.2 innings, four hits, one run, 0 walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Jonah Tong came in next in his season debut and had a terrific outing with three scoreless hitless innings facing the minimum.  He gave up one walk with two strikeouts.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after DH Juan Soto hit a solo homer. However, they did not do much after that since Marlins starting pitcher RHP Eury Perez retired the next eight hitters in a row until Soto singled in the top of the fourth.

The only other hit they had was a single by CF A.J. Ewing in the top of the eighth.  RF Carson Benge was robbed by Marlins centerfielder Jakob Marsee who robbed him on deep fly balls in the top of the first and sixth.

The offense had only three hits all night and were unable to generate any rallies to put runners in scoring position.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, May 23 at the Marlins at 4:10 p.m.
