Mets Beat Marlins 9-7 in 10 innings On Two-Run Walk-Off Homer By M.J. Melendez

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 9-7 in 10 innings tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 24-33.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Bo Bichette singled with one out and LF Juan Soto followed with a walk. DH Jared Young then walked and CF A.J. Ewing followed with a two-run single to Bichette and Soto and then stole second. Two batters later, 3B Brett Baty drove in Young and Vientos with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the third, 3B Mark Vientos hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, 2B Marcus Semian led off with a single to lead off the inning and then reached second on an error. Catcher Luis Torrens then hit a sacrifice bunt and Semian scored on an error by catcher Joe Mack.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, in the bottom of the seventh, Bichette walked with one out and Soto followed with a single. M.J. Melendez came up next as a pinch-hitter and drove in Bichette with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the tenth, Soto flew out to lead off the inning and then Melendez delivered a two-run walk-off homer.

RHP Freddy Perelta started out well with two scoreless innings and then had a difficult top of the third. Peralta gave up a run on a RBI triple by 2B Xavier Edwards and threw 38 pitches in the inning.

Peralta gave up another run in the top of the fourth on a RBI double by CF Jake Marsee.

Peralta gave up a lead-off single to catcher Joe Mack in the top of the fifth and after picking up two outs, Vientos made an error to allow Mack to score and then Peralta gave up a RBI double to LF Kyle Stowers and was then taken out.

Peralta's final line was 4.2 innings, seven hits, four runs, (two earned runs), one walk and five strikeouts.

LHP A.J. Minter came in next and picked up last out in the top of the fifth and first two outs in the top of the sixth and was taken out.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed and picked up last out in the top of the sixth and came back out for the top of the seventh.

Brazoban gave up a one-out walk to Edwards and a double to 1B Liam Hicks and a sacrifice fly to SS Otto Lopez.

RHP Tobias Myers came on in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single and then a two-run homer to RF Owen Caissie.

RHP Luke Weaver followed and threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

RHP Adam Warren came in next and threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, May 30 at home against the Marlins at 4:10 p,m.

Mets Hang On To Beat Reds 4-2 Led By 2 RBIs from Carson Benge

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 tonight at Citi Field to snap their five-game losing streak and improved their record to 23-33.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after LF Juan Soto hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the second, DH Eric Wagaman who was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins last month also hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, 3B Brett Baty reached on an error by SS Ella De La Cruz with two outs and catcher Luis Torrens followed with a single. 

RF Carson Benge followed with a RBI single to score Baty,

In the bottom of the eighth, pinch-hitter Jared Young led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Three batters later, Benge delivered once again with another RBI single to bring in another much needed insurance run.

Mets RHP Huascar Brazoban got the start as an "opener" and threw a scoreless top of the first,

RHP Jonah Tong followed in the top of the second as a bulk reliever and did a fine job allowing one unearned run on three hits in 3.2 innings. He gave up four walks with one strikeout. Tong picked up his second win of the season.

RHP Tobas Myers came in next with two outs in the top of the fifth and picked up last out in the inning. Myers stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a double and single and picked up one out in the inning and was then taken out.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and gave up an infield hit to 3B Sal Stewart to score a run, but retired DH Eugenio Suarez on a fly-out to end the inning and preserve the lead.

Raley stayed in for the top of the seventh and retired the first two hitters he faced and walked catcher Tyler Stephenson and was then taken out.

RHP Luke Weaver followed and picked up last out in the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams came on in the top of the ninth and had a rocky start walking the first two hitters he faced and after a strikeout, gave up another walk to load the bases with one out. 

Williams came back to strike out pinch-hitter Dane Myers and RF Blake Dunn for the last two outs to close out the game and pick up his eighth save.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, May 29 at home against the Miami Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Reds 7-2 As David Peterson's Struggles Continue

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 tonight at Citi Field for their fifth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 22-33.

LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a two-run double to 3B Eugenio Suarez.

Peterson worked out of a based loaded no out jam in the top of the second helped out by a 1-2-3 double play and had a scoreless top of the third, but then it came apart in the top of the fourth.

Peterson gave up three straight singles to bring in a run and two-run double to SS Elly De La Cruz.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the fifth and gave a RBI double to catcher Tyler Stephenson in the top of the sixth and was taken out.

Peterson's final line was 5.0 innings, 11 hits, six runs, three walks and four strikeouts.

LHP Sean Manaea came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth and another scoreless inning in the top of the seventh. Manaea stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to DH Sal Stewart.

LHP A.J. Minter made his 2026 season debut in the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

The Met offense did not do much outside of the bottom of the sixth when SS Bo Bichette singled with one out and DH Juan Soto followed with a two-run homer.

They were unable to score with runners in scoring position going 0-4 leaving four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 27 at home against the Reds at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Reds 7-2 As Nolan McLean struggles for second consecutive start

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 this afternoon at Citi Field for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 22-32.

RHP Nolan McLean had a dominating top of the first striking out the side, but then it fell apart from there.

McLean gave up a hit by pitch, walk and single to load the bases in the top of the second. McLean then gave up a run on a force-out after SS Bo Bichette made a slow glove flip to second base which caused a late throw to first and the run to score. McLean gave up a run on a wild pitch later in the inning.

In the top of the third, McLean gave up a solo homer to LF JJ Bleday.

It came apart for McLean in the top of the fourth after he gave up a two-run single to RF Spencer Steer and a two-run homer to the following catcher Tyler Stephenson and was then taken out.

McLean's final line was 3.1 scoreless innings, five hits, seven runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren came in next with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Jonathan Pinataro followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Tobias Myers threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until 2B Marcus Semien homered to lead off the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brett Baty doubled to lead off the inning and two batters later, D.H. Carson Benge drove in Baty with a RBI ground-out.

The offense continue to lack the clutch hit and went 0-6 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 26 at home against the Reds at 7:10 p.m.
