Mets Beat Padres 2-1 With Excellent Start From Nolan McLean and Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres at Citi Field tonight for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 57-69.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after LF A.J. Ewimg led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

3B Bo Bichette then drove in Ewing with a RBI single and advanced Lindot to third. RF Carson Benge followed by grounding out to third to advance Bichtete to second.

CF Luis Robert Jr followed by driving in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

The offense did not do much after that and had one hitter reach base from the second to the sixth. They had a chance to score in the bottom of the eighth after 2B Marcus Semien and DH Jorge Polanco singled to start the inning, but then catcher Francisco Alvarez struck out and Ewing grounded out and Lindor grounded out to third to end the inning.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean got off to rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up back-to-back singles with one out. 

McLean was then helped out by his defense after he gave up a single to 1B Ty France, but Benge threw 2B Jake Croneworth. McLean gave up another single to the following hitter CF Jackson Merrill, but once again Benge came up with another outstanding throw to throw out 3B Manny Machado at the plate.

McLean had another difficult inning in the top of the second after he gave up two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases. He gave up a sacrifice fly to RF Fernando Tatis, but again his outfield defense came to his rescue after LF A.J. Ewing threw out SS Xander Bogaerts at home.

McLean was able to settle down after that and allowed only hit after the second inning and at one point retired nine out of 10 hitters and was taken out after the top of the sixth.

His final line was six innings, six hits, one run, four walks and three strikeouts. He picked up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 3.34.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh and picked up first out in the top of the eighth and was then taken out. LHP Nate Lavender followed and picked up last two outs in the inning on two pitches.

RHP Daniel Duarte came on in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts to pick up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 18 at home against the Padres at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Sweep Nationals 4-3 Powered By Torrens And Fine Effort by Christian Scott and Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 at Citi Field to complete the three-game sweep and improved their record to 56-69.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings and then came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

1B Jared Young led off with a single and two batters later, 2B Brett Baty hit a double. DH Jorge Polanco then drove in Young with a RBI ground-out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a game-winning two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then 3B Bo Bichette followed with a single. RF Carson Benge then grounded into a double play, but Young followed with a RBI double.

Mets RHP Christian Scott dominated through the first six innings allowing one run on three hits, but then ran out of gas in the top of the seventh.

Scott gave up a lead-off walk and after a ground-out, a RBI single to catcher Keibert Ruiz and a single to CF Jacob Young and was taken out.

LHP Nate Lavender came in next and picked up two key outs to end the inning. 

Scott's final line was 6.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win.

RHP Daniel Duarte followed and threw a scoreeless top of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts on 11 pitches. Senga picked up his third save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, August 17 at home against the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Rally to Beat Nationals 5-4 On Walk-Off Single By Francisco Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 at Citi Field this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 55-69.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF A.J. Ewing led off with a walk and stole second and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

Two batters later, RF Carson Benge walked to load the bases and then 1B Jared Young drove in Ewing and Lindor with a two-run double.

The offense was held scoreless for the next four innings until the bottom of the sixth after Benge led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lindor led off with a single and was thrown out on a fielder's choice. 3B No Bo Bichette then singled and Benge followed with a single. Bichette and Benge advanced on a wild pitch, but then Young struck out and 2B Marcus Semien grounded out to second to end the threat.

In the bottom of the ninth, LF Brett Baty led off with a walk and then 1B Jorge Polanco followed with a single. Catcher Francisco Alvarez then hit the game-tying double to score Baty.

CF A.J. Ewing followed with a strikeout, and then Lindor delivered the walk-off single.

Mets LHP Sean Maanea started out well allowing one run in five innings on a solo homer by 1B Andres Chapparo in the top of the fourth, and then it all unraveled in the top of the sixth.

Manaea hit LF Andrew Pinckey, walked Chappraro and then gave up a three-run homer to 3B Brady House. Manaea was able to respond by getting a strikeout and a double play to get out of the inning.

Manaea came back out for the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to 2B Nasim Nunez who was then picked out and then gave up a triple to Pickney and was then taken out. Manaea's final line was 6.1 innings, six hits, four runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and got RF Dylan Crews to fly out to Benge who made a perfect throw to Alvarez at home to throw out Pickney to end the inning.

Nunez came back out for the top of the eighth and gave up a single and got a strikeout and was taken out.

RHP Jefry Yan came in next and retired the next two hitters. Yan stayed in for the top of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning and picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 16 at home against the Nationals at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Beat Nationals 4-1 Powered By Homers From Lindor and Young

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 54-69.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against LHP Andrew Alvarez and then came alive in the bottom of the sixth.

SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer with two outs and then 3B Bo Bichette struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch by Alvarez.

CF Luis Robert Jr followed with a single and then RF Carson Benge drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Jared Young hit a solo homer with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a walk and later advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Two batters later, Lindor walked and then Bichette followed with a RBI single.

Mets RHP Robert Stock started out well with two scoreless innings and then gave up an unearned run in the top of the third after Lindor made an eror which later resulted in a run.

Stock had a scoreless top  of the fourth and then in the top of the fifth, gave up a lead-off walk, had a strikeout and then a hit by pitch and was taken out.

His final line was 4.1 innings, three hits, one run, (0 earned runs), three walks and five strikeouts.

LHP Nate Lavender followed and picked up last two outs in the top of the fifth.

RHP Jonathan Pintato came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth and also threw a scoreless top of the seventh. Pintaro picked up his first win of the season.

RHP Daniel Duerte followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth to pick up his second career save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, August 15 at home against the Nationals at 4:10 p.m.
