Mets Lose To Braves 5-3 Despite Two-Run Homer From Juan Soto

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-3 tonight at SunTruist Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 36-52.

Mets RHP Christian Scott started out well with a 1-2-3 bottom of the first with two strikeouts, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Scott gave up a lead-off walk to LF Mauricio Dubon and then allowed a two-run homer to the following hitter CF Michael Harris II.

Scott was hurt again by the home run in the bottom of the third after he gave up a solo homer to 2B Ozzie Albies.

Scott was able to settle down and finish up strong by striking out the side in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, two hits, three runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.

LHP A.J. Minter came in next in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a solo homer to 1B Matt Olson.

RHP Kodai Senga came in next and had 1-2-3 innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, however he stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to Olson.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after CF A.J. Ewing reached first on an error by Olson and then LF Juan Soto followed with a two-run homer.

The offense did not do much for the next five innings until the top of the ninth after catcher Luis Torrens singled with one out and two batters later, Soto singled and 3B Bo Bichette folowed by driving in Torrens with a RBI single.

However, SS Francisco Lindor came up next and grounded out to second for the last out of the game.

The Met offense was unable to come up with a timely hit and went 2-5 with runners in scoring position leaving 10 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, July 4 at the Braves at 8:08 p.m.

Mets Lose to Blue Jays 9-3 Afte Freddy Peralta Has Another Rough Start

The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 9-3 this afternoon at the Rogers Centre to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 36-51.

RHP Freddy Peralta got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off infield hit to RF Nathan Lukes and a double to the following hitter 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Peralta then gave up another infield hit to the following hitter 3B Kazuma Okamoto to bring in a run.

Peralta was able to escape out of a based loaded jam to prevent further trouble and had a scoreless bottom of the second with two strikeouts.

However, it all apart for Peralta in the bottom of the third after he gave up a lead off walk to Okamoto and two batters later, a single to catcher Aledandro Kirk.

Two batters later, Peralta gave up a RBI double to 2B Ernie Clement and then a three-run homer to DH Sean Keys.

Peralta had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, seven hits, five runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Joey Gerber followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Cionel Perez came in next and had back-to-back strikeouts to end the bottom of the sixth.

Perez stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off walk to Guerrero Jr and then back-to-back singles leading to a run.

Perez gave up another single to Kirk and then a three-run homer to punch-hitter Myles Straw and was taken out.

LHP A.J. Minter followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first seven innings until the top of the eighth after 2B Brett Baty singled with one out and two batters later, RF Carson Benge hit a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, SS Francisco Lindor added a solo homer.

The Mets are off tomorrow night and return back to action for the start of a four-game series beginning on Friday, July 3 at the Atlanta Braves at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Beat Blue Jays 3-0 Powered By Soto Homers From Alvarez and Torrens and Outstanding Pitching

The New York Mets beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 tonight at the Rogers Centre to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 36-50.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings wasting a scoring opportunity in the top of the fourth after LF Juan Soto led off with a walk and then 3B Bo Bichette led off with a single. SS Francisco Lindor then hit a ground-out to first base to advance Soto and Bichette to second and third with one out. However, 1B Jared Young and CF A.J. Ewing struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, DH Francisco Alvarez led off with a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, catcher Luis Torrens also hit a solo homer.

In the top of the ninth, Ewing led off with a single and then Alvarez hit a ground-out which advanced Ewing to third. 2B Bret Baty followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ewing for a much needed insurance run.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean worked out a two-out single in the bottom of the first and back-to-back singles in the bottom of the second.

McLean had a 1-2-3 bottom of the third and worked around a two-out double and walk in the bottom of the fourth.

McLean worked around an infield hit in the bottom of the fifth and a one-out walk in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

He had an outstanding outing with six scoreless innings on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

McLean picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 3.78.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth to extend his scoreless streak to 24 consecutive innings.

RHP Devin Williams followed by closing it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth to pick up his 12th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, July 1 at the Blue Jays at 3:07 p.m.

Mets Lose to Blue Jays 2-1 Due to Poor Defense and Lack of Timely Hitting

The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 tonight at the Rogers Centre for second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 35-50.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after DH George Springer hit a fly ball to LF Juan Soto and Soto misread the bounce on the artificial turf and the ball went over his glove all the way to the left field wall. 

CF A.J. Ewing ran over to recover the ball but the ball went out of his glove which allowed Springer to keep running and score a run. The play was ruled a triple and an error charged to Ewing even though Soto misplayed the fly ball. 

Manaea was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth. Manaea gave up a lead-off double to 2B Luis Urias in the bottom of the fifth and two batters later, a sacrifice fly to CF Myles Straw.

Manea came back out for the bottom of the sixth and retired the first two hitters he faced and then SS Francisco Lindor made an error and Manaea gave up a walk and was taken out.

Manaea's final line was 5.2 innings, three hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts. 

RHP Austin Warren followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Joey Gerber threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first six innings until Lindor homered to lead off the top of the seventh and two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing was hit by a pitch, but later in the inning, was thrown out trying to steal second for the last out in the inning.

In the top of the eighth, catcher Francisco Alvarez doubled with one out and two batters later, Soto was intentionally walked. However, 2B Bo Bichette came up next in his first game back in Toronto and grounded back to the pitcher.

In the top of the ninth, 1B Jared Young singled with one out and Ewing followed with a walk. Just like yesterday they had another chance to win, but DH Mark Vientos and pinch-hitter second baseman Ronny Mauricio struck out to end the game.

The offense once again was unable to come up with any timely hits going 0-9 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 30 at the Blue Jays at 7:07 p.m.
