Mets Beat Padres 7-3 To Take Series Led By 5 Hit Game From Carson Benge

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 7-3 this afternoon at Petco Park to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 29-36.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after RF Carson Benge led off with a single and SS Bo Bichette followed with a double. DH Juan Soto then drove Benge with a RBI ground-out.

In the top of the second, 2B Marcus Semien led off with a homer. 

The offense was held scoreless for the next two innings until the top of the fifth after Benge led off with another single and Bichette followed with a single. Soto then walked to load the bases and 1B Jared Young followed with a RBI single. CF A.J. Ewing then hit a sacrifice into a double play which brought home a run.

In the top of the sixth, LF M.J. Melendez hit a solo homer with one out and two batters later, Benge hit a solo homer.

In the top of the eighth, 3B Brett Baty led off with a walk and three batters later, Benge capped off his stellar day with the plate with a RBI triple for his fifth hit of the game.

Benge is the first Met rookie since Pete Alonso since 2019 to have a five-hit game. He scored three runs, drove in two runs and was a double shy of the cycle.

RHP Huascar Brazoban got another start as an "opener" and threw a scoreless bottom of the first.

LHP Sean Manaea came in next in the bottom of the second as a bulk reliever and did a fine job throwing scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth.

Manaea gave up a two-run homer to catcher Freddy Fermin in the bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

Manaea's final line was four innings, four hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts. He picked up his first win.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

LHP A.J. Minter followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth helped out by a outstanding catch by Ewing in deep left-center to prevent an extra base hit. Ewing also picked up a base hit in the top of the ninth to extend his hitting streak to five game.

RHP Devin Williams came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a RBI single to Fermin, but was able to pick up last three outs to close out the game.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, June 9 back home at Citi Field against the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Padres 3-2 After Blowing Late Lead

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 3-2 tonight Petco Park to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 28-36.

RHP Nolan McLean started out well with two scoreless innings and then in the bottom of the third, gave up a lead-off walk 2B Sung-Man Song and two batters later, a RBI single to RF Fernando Tatis Jr. McLean was able to escape out of further trouble in the inning after he struck out 3B Manny Machado.

McLean then had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth and was helped out by his defense in the bottom of the fifth after SS Bo Bichette made a diving stop to hold runners at first and second and then catcher Luis Torrens made a pump-fake on a steal attempt by Song after he went too far off third base to throw him out.

McLean came back out for the bottom of the sixth and finished up strong with a 1-2-3 inning. His final line was six innings, three hits, one run, three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren followed in the bottom of the seventh and quickly retired his first two hitters and then ran into some bad luck after he couldn't field an infield hit down the first base line. On the next pitch, Warren gave up a two-run homer to catcher Freddy Fermin. Warren stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense got on the board in the top of the second after 2B Marcus Semien walked with one out and then CF A.J. Ewing followed with a single. Two batters later, 3B Brett Baty drove in Semien with a RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, Semien led off with a homer.

In the top of the eighth, they had a chance to score after RF Carson Benge and Bichette singled with one out, but then LF Juan Soto hit a hard line-out to Song and then doubled Benge off second base.

In the top of the ninth, Ewing walked with two outs and then DH Mark Vientos struck out for the last out of the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 7 at the Padres at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Padres 5-0 Behind Excellent Start From Christian Scott

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 5-0 tonight at Petco Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 28-35. 

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Jared Young homered to lead off the top of the second.

In the top of the third, catcher Luis Torrens doubled with one out and two batters later, SS Bo Bichette drove in Torrens with a RBI triple.

In the top of the fifth, 3B Brett Baty singled to lead off the top of the fifth and two batters later, Torrens came through again with a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, CF A.J. Ewing singled with one out in the inning and then stole second. Two batters later, Baty drove in Ewing with a RBI single.

RHP Christian Scott had a fine start throwing 5.2 scoreless innings allowing three singles and two walks with three strikeouts. He threw a season-high 98 pitches (67 strikes). Scott picked up his second consecutive win after he won his first career game in his previous start. He lowered his ERA to 2.50.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed and picked up last out in the bottom of the sixth and stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

LHP A.J. Minter closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, June 6 at the Padres at 10:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Mariners 7-1 Behind Four-Hit Game From Bo Bichette

The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 7-1 this afternoon at T-Mobile Park to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 27-35.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after SS Bo Bichette and DH Juan Soto singled with one out and then 1B Josh Naylor made an error which allowed Bichette to score.

The offense was held scoreless for the next two innings and then broke out for four runs in the top of the fourth.  LF M.J. Melendez walked with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens and RF Carson Benge to load the bases.

Bichette came up next and drove in Torrens and Benge with a two-run single. Soto followed by reaching first on a fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Soto and Benge perfectly executed a double steal after Soto stole second which drew a throw from catcher Jhonny Pereda and allowed Benge to steal home.

The following hitter, 1B Jared Young hit a grounder that went off the first base bag and passed Naylor's glove to bring in Soto with a RBI double.

In the top of the fifth, CF A.J. Ewing singled with one out and Melendez followed by driving in Ewing with a RBI double.

In the top of the eighth, Torrens led off with a double and then Benge grounded out second to advance Torrens to third. Bichette followed with a sacrifice fly to score Torrens for his third RBI of the game.

RHP Freddy Peralta got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to SS J.P Crawford but settled down after that. Peralta dealt with traffic on the basepaths all game but did not allow any more runs. He was able to induce two double play grounders after coming into the game with only one double play grounder all year. Peralta finished up strong with a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth and it was the fifth time this year he has gotten throw six innings.

His final line was six innings, one run, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.38.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Joey Gerber who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the day came on in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, June 5 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.
