Mets Lose to Nationals 5-4 After Bullpen Blows Eighth Inning Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 5-4 this afternoon at Citi Field to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 10-21.

Mets RHP Freddy Peralta had a scoreless top of the first, but made a defensive blunder in the top of the second throwing the ball to first which allowed the runner to advance to third. Peralta was charged with two unearned runs in the inning.

Peralta gave up an earned run in the top of the third on a RBI single by SS C.J. Abrams.

Peralta was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

His final line was six innings, four hits, three runs, one earned run, three walks and six strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came on in the top of the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to Abrams.

RHP Devin Williams threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until LF M.J. Melendez hit a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the sixth, DH Juan Soto walked and then 1B Mark Vientos followed with a RBI double.

The Met offense's struggles with men on base continued after they went 2-10 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, May 1 at the Los Angeles Angels at 9:38 p.m.

Mets Crushed By Nationals 14-2 After Peterson and Manaea Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 14-2 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 10-20.

LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up two hits on three hits and a passed ball.

Peterson then settled down temporarily retiring nine hitters in a row, but it all fell apart for him in the top of the fourth.

Peterson gave up two more runs and was then taken out. LHP Sean Manaea came in next and gave up a based loaded walk and then a grand slam.

Manaea stayed in for the top of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning. Manaea gave up a run in the top of the sixth and gave up a run.

Manaea gave up two more runs in the top of the seventh and then RHP Carl Edwards Jr came in next and gave up a run.

Edwards stayed in for the top of the eighth and then gave up a run in the top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until DH Juan Soto hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third.

LF M.J. Melendez drove in the other Met run after reaching on an infield hit in the bottom of the fifth.

The Mets offense struggled all night with men on base going 1-8 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, April 30 at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Rout Nationals 8-0 After Offense Erupts for Seven-Run Fourth

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 8-0 tonight at Citi Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 10-19.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Bo Bichette led off with a homer.

The offense did not have a hit again until the bottom of the fourth after LF M.J. Melendez singled with one out. 1B Mark Vientos and RF Brett Baty followed with walks to load the bases and then 2B Marcus Semien hit a grounder until 3B Jorbit Vivas glove, which allowed two runs to score.

CF Carson Benge came up next and delivered a two-run single.

Bichette followed with a sacrifice fly.

DH Juan Soto came up next and broke the game open with a two-run homer to left-center field.

RHP Clay Holmes had another outstanding start with six scoreless innings. He gave up three hits and one walk with six strikeouts

Holmes picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 1.75.

RHP Tobias Myers followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Craig Kimbrel closed it out with a dominant top of the ninth striking out the side.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 29 at home against the Nationals at 7:10 p.m.

Kodai Senga Goes On IL

New York Mets RHP Kodai Senga has been placed on the injured list with lumbar spine inflammation. It is unknown how Senga will be out. He won't throw for 7-10 days.

After dominating for his first two starts, Senga has a tough time in his last three starts allowing 16 earned runs in 8.1 innings for a 17.28 ERA and 3.00 WHIP.

RHP Christian Scott is being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. Scott struggled in his first start back in the Big Leagues giving up five walks, but did well in two Triple-A starts with a 1.74 ERA and 0.58 WHIP in 10.1 innings.
