Mets Fire Manager Carlos Mendoza

The New York Mets announced today that they have let go manager Carlos Mendoza according to Jon Heyman of the NY Post.

Andy Green is taking over as the interim manager. He had worked for the Mets as the senior vice president of player development and previously was the manager for the San Diego Padres.

This year was a difficult year for Mendoza and the Mets due to poor performances from the offense as well as starting rotation and a lot of injuries which all resulted in a 34-47 record.

Mendoza was hired by the Mets in November 2023 after working as the Yankees bench coach and helped the Mets advance to the NLCS in his first year in 2024.

Last year, he and his team got off to a 45-24 start on June 12, but it all took a downturn when Kodai Senga strained his right hamstring covering first base after 1B Pete Alonso made a high throw. The season was never the same again after Senga's injury and the Mets went 38-55 the rest of the way and were eliminated from the playoffs after the last day of the season.

It will be interesting to see where owner Steve Cohen and President of Baseball Operations go from here as they try to rebuild this franchise going forward.
