LHP Cionel Perez got the start as the "opener" and threw a scoreless top of the first. RHP Tobias Myers came in next and threw a scoreless top of the second, but then gave up three runs in the top of the third. Myers stayed in for the top of the fourth and threw a 1-2-3 inning.
RHP Kodai Senga came in next in the top of the fifth and had a 1-2-3 inning and worked out of a jam in the top of the sixth after he gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Alec Bohm and a double to the following hitter LF Brandon Marsh. Senga came back to retire the next three hitters he faced.
However, in the top of the seventh, Senga was not as fortunate after he gave up a lead-off single to CF Justin Crawford and two batters later, a two-run homer to DH Kyle Scwarber on a hittable fastball with two strikeouts.
Senga was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.
His final line was five innings, four hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings wasting a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the third before finally breaking through in the bottom of the fifth.
CF Tyrone Taylor led off with a single and 3B Brett Baty followed with a walk. Two batters later, RF Carson Benge drove in Taylor with a RBI single.
LF Juan Soto followed with a walk to load the bases with one out, but then 3B Bo Bichette struck out and DH Eric Wagaman lined out to centerfield.
In the bottom of the sixth, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a double and two batters later, pinch-hitter A.J. Ewing tied the game with a two-run homer.
Baty followed with a walk and then catcher Luis Torrens singled to advance Baty to third. Benge followed by driving in Baty on a ground-out fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Jared Young was hit by a pitch with two outs and then Ewing then reached base on an infield hit and Young advanced to third on a throwing error by LHP Jose Alvarado. However, Baty grounded back to the pitcher to end the threat.
In the bottom of the eighth, they threatened to score again after Torrens led off with a walk and two batters later, Soto walked. Bichette then walked to load the bases with one out, however pinch-hitter Ronny Mauricio popped out to second and Alvarez struck out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, Baty walked with two outs, but Torrens lined out for the last out.
The Met offense was unable to come up with any timely hits wasting numerous scoring opportunities. They went 2-16 with runners in scoring position leaving 14 runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, June 29 at the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:07 p.m.
