Mets Beat Mariners 7-1 Behind Four-Hit Game From Bo Bichette

The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 7-1 this afternoon at T-Mobile Park to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 27-35.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after SS Bo Bichette and DH Juan Soto singled with one out and then 1B Josh Naylor made an error which allowed Bichette to score.

The offense was held scoreless for the next two innings and then broke out for four runs in the top of the fourth.  LF M.J. Melendez walked with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens and RF Carson Benge to load the bases.

Bichette came up next and drove in Torrens and Benge with a two-run single. Soto followed by reaching first on a fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Soto and Benge perfectly executed a double steal after Soto stole second which drew a throw from catcher Jhonny Pereda and allowed Benge to steal home.

The following hitter, 1B Jared Young hit a grounder that went off the first base bag and passed Naylor's glove to bring in Soto with a RBI double.

In the top of the fifth, CF A.J. Ewing singled with one out and Melendez followed by driving in Ewing with a RBI double.

In the top of the eighth, Torrens led off with a double and then Benge grounded out second to advance Torrens to third. Bichette followed with a sacrifice fly to score Torrens for his third RBI of the game.

RHP Freddy Peralta got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to SS J.P Crawford but settled down after that. Peralta dealt with traffic on the basepaths all game but did not allow any more runs. He was able to induce two double play grounders after coming into the game with only one double play grounder all year. Peralta finished up strong with a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth and it was the fifth time this year he has gotten throw six innings.

His final line was six innings, one run, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.38.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Joey Gerber who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the day came on in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, June 5 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Lose to Mariners 8-3 With Poor Pitching And Sloppy Defense

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 8-3 tonight at T-Mobile Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 26-35.

Mets RHP Huascar Brazoban got the start as the "opener" and threw a scoreless bottom of the first and then gave back out for the bottom of the second and gave up a two-run homer to 1B Partrick Wisdom and was taken out.

RHP Jonah Tong came in next and picked up last out in the bottom of the second. 

Tong stayed in for the bottom of the third and was let down by his defense after 2B Marcus Semien tried to make a leaping catch, but dropped the ball and made a poor throw to first base which allowed 2B Randy Arozarena to advance to second. Later in the inning, RF Luke Raley hit a line drive off 1B Mark Vientos glove, which allowed another run to score.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tong gave up a lead-off walk to Wisdom and then a single to the following hitter catcher Jhonny Pereda.

Two batters later, Tong walked SS J.P. Crawford to load the bases and then gave up a sacrifice fly to CF Julio Rodriguez.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tong gave up an infield hit to 2B Cole Young with one out and and then a single to DH Dominic Canzone. Two batters later, Tong gave up a three-run homer to Pereda.

Tong's final line was 3.1 innings, five runs (four earned), on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

LHP Cionel Perez made his Met debut in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off homer to Rodriguez. Perez settled down after that retiring the next three hitters he faced and stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP A.J. Minter threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after CF A.J. Ewing doubled with one out and two batters later, RF Carson Benge delivered with a two-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, Benge delivered once again with a solo homer.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, June 3 at the Mariners at 3:40 p.m.

Mets Lose to Mariners 3-2 in 10 Innings With Only Two Solo Homers Despite Great Pitching from Sean Manaea

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 3-2 in 10 innings tonight at T-Mobile Park to snap their five-game winning streak and dropped their record to 26-34.

Mets RHP Austin Warren got the start as an "opener" and had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fist and gave up a lead-off hit by pitch in the bottom of the second and was then taken out. 

 LHP Sean Manaea came in next and threw a scoreless inning and then gave up a solo homer to 3B Cole Emerson in the bottom of the third.

Manaea was able to settle down after that retiring 11 hitters in a row. His final line was five innings, one hit, one run, one walk and four strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up the game-tying solo homer to 1B Josh Naylor and gave up another hit and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

RHP Luke Weaver followed and picked up the last out in the bottom of the seventh and stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Devin Williams came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

LHP A.J. Minter came on in the bottom of the tenth and gave up a walk-off single to 2B Cole Young.

The Met offense was held scoreless against RHP Emerson Hancock for the first four innings until 1B Jared Young hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, 2B Marcus Semien hit a solo homer.

The offense did not any have more hits after that and wasted their scoring opportunity in the top of the tenth after LF Juan Soto struck out to lead off the inning and then pinch-hitter Mark Vientos followed with a strikeout and CF A.J. Ewing popped out to end the inning.

The offense went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving one runner on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 2 at the Mariners at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Rout Marlins 10-1 To Complete Sweep Powered By Soto Grand Slam

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 10-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to complete the three-game sweep and fourth consecutive win overall to improve their record to 26-33.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after RF Carson Benge led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the second, 1B Mark Vientos singled to lead off the inning and three batters later, 2B Marcus Semien delivered with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, CF A.J. Ewing walked with two outs and 3B Brett Bay followed with a single. Semien followed with a walk to load the bases and then catcher Luis Torrens came up next and delivered a two-run single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Semien walked with two outs and then Torrens was hit by a pitch and Benge walked to load the bases. SS Bo Bichette came up next and brought in a run on a based loaded walk.

LF Juan Soto came up next and broke the game open with a grand slam.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean did not have his best stuff but managed to allow only one run on five hits in five innings. He gave up five walks with two strikeouts.

He picked up his third win.

LHP David Peterson followed and closed it out with four scoreless innings. He gave up one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Peterson picked up his first save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, June 1 for the beginning of a six-game west coast trip at the Seattle Mariners at 9:40 p.m.
