LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a one-out double to RF Corbin Carroll, an infield hit by SS Geraldo Perdamo and then a sacrifice fly by catcher Gabriel Moreno.
However, in the top of the second, it all unraveled for Peterson after he gave up four run, the big blow coming on a bases clearing double by Carroll. Peterson was able to settle down after that and retired 11 out of the last 12 hitters he faced.
Peterson's final line was 5.0 innings, six hits, five runs, two walks and six strikeouts.
LHP Sean Manaea came in next and had scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh, but running into trouble in the top of the eighth.
Manaea gave up a one-out single to 2B Ildemaro Vegas and then gave up a single and walk to load the bases. Manaea then gave up a two-run double to CF Jorge Barraso that went off centerfielder Luis Robert's Jr glove.
Manaea still stayed in the game and had a scoreless top of the ninth to salvage the bullpen allowing two runs on five hits in four innings.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until the bottom of the sixth after 3B Bo Bichette led off with a single and two batters later, Robert Jr singled. RF Brett Baty then drove in Bichette with a RBI single, but 1B Mark Vientos struck out and then 2B Marcus Semian flew out to left to end the threat.
In the bottom of the eighth, Robert Jr reached on an infield hit with one out and then Baty followed with a double and Vientos drove in Robert Jr with a sacrifice fly.
The offense struggled all game with men on base after they went 1-5 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, April 9 at home against the Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m.
