Mets Beat Padres 4-2 Powered By Carson Benge To Take Series

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 58-70.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings and then came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

CF A.J. Ewing led off with a single and then SS Francisco Lindor grounded into a double play. 3B Bo Bichette followed with a walk and RF Carson Benge came up next and hit a two-run homer.

The offense did not score for the next three innings until the bottom of the inning after Ewing walked with one out and stole second and then Lindor followed with a single. Bichette then grounded into a fielder's choice and caught a break when SS Sung-Mun Song made a throwing error to score Ewing and put two more runners in scoring position.

Two batters later, 1B Jared Young drove in Bichette with a RBI single.

Mets RHP Robert Stock started out well with four scoreless innungs and then in the top of the fifth, gave up a lead-off double to SS Xander Bogaerts and two batters later, a RBI double to DH Manny Machado and was then taken out.

Stock's final line was 4.1 innings, two hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Jonathan Pintato followed and picked up last two outs in the top of the fifth

LHP Nate Lavender came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

Lavender picked up his first win of the season.

RHP Austin Warren followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Daniel Duarte threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a run off two hits and a walk, but was able to get the game-ending double play to pick up his fourth save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, August 21 at the Chicago White Sox at 7:40 p.m.

Mets Lose To Padres 5-2 After Allowing Three Homers And Wasting Several Scoring Opportunities

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 5-2 tonight at Citi Field to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 57-70.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a homer to RF Fernando Tatis Jr on the first pitch of the game.

Thornton was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth, but in the top of the fifth gave up a two-run homer to Tatis Jr and was taken out after the inning.

Thorton's final line was five innings, six hits, three runs, one walk and seven strikeouts.

RHP Jake Weisenburger came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth. Weisenburger came back out for the top of the seventh and gave up back-to-back walks with one out and was then taken out.

LHP Jefry Yan followed and gave up a RBI single to 1B Ty France and came out after the inning.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. Nunez stayed in for the top of the ninth and gave up a solo homer to 3B Manny Machado.

The Met offense had a golden scoring opportunity to score in the bottom of the second loading the bases with two outs, but then Tatis Jr made an incredible catch to rob SS Francisco Lindor of a grand slam.

The offense finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after catcher Luis Torrens hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, CF Luis Robert Jr also hit a solo homer.

The Met offense struggled all night with men on base and failed to get a timely hit. They went 0-11 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, August 19 at home against the Padres at 1:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Padres 2-1 With Excellent Start From Nolan McLean and Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres at Citi Field tonight for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 57-69.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after LF A.J. Ewimg led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

3B Bo Bichette then drove in Ewing with a RBI single and advanced Lindot to third. RF Carson Benge followed by grounding out to third to advance Bichtete to second.

CF Luis Robert Jr followed by driving in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

The offense did not do much after that and had one hitter reach base from the second to the sixth. They had a chance to score in the bottom of the eighth after 2B Marcus Semien and DH Jorge Polanco singled to start the inning, but then catcher Francisco Alvarez struck out and Ewing grounded out and Lindor grounded out to third to end the inning.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean got off to rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up back-to-back singles with one out. 

McLean was then helped out by his defense after he gave up a single to 1B Ty France, but Benge threw 2B Jake Croneworth. McLean gave up another single to the following hitter CF Jackson Merrill, but once again Benge came up with another outstanding throw to throw out 3B Manny Machado at the plate.

McLean had another difficult inning in the top of the second after he gave up two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases. He gave up a sacrifice fly to RF Fernando Tatis, but again his outfield defense came to his rescue after LF A.J. Ewing threw out SS Xander Bogaerts at home.

McLean was able to settle down after that and allowed only hit after the second inning and at one point retired nine out of 10 hitters and was taken out after the top of the sixth.

His final line was six innings, six hits, one run, four walks and three strikeouts. He picked up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 3.34.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh and picked up first out in the top of the eighth and was then taken out. LHP Nate Lavender followed and picked up last two outs in the inning on two pitches.

RHP Daniel Duarte came on in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts to pick up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 18 at home against the Padres at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Sweep Nationals 4-3 Powered By Torrens And Fine Effort by Christian Scott and Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 at Citi Field to complete the three-game sweep and improved their record to 56-69.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings and then came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

1B Jared Young led off with a single and two batters later, 2B Brett Baty hit a double. DH Jorge Polanco then drove in Young with a RBI ground-out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a game-winning two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then 3B Bo Bichette followed with a single. RF Carson Benge then grounded into a double play, but Young followed with a RBI double.

Mets RHP Christian Scott dominated through the first six innings allowing one run on three hits, but then ran out of gas in the top of the seventh.

Scott gave up a lead-off walk and after a ground-out, a RBI single to catcher Keibert Ruiz and a single to CF Jacob Young and was taken out.

LHP Nate Lavender came in next and picked up two key outs to end the inning. 

Scott's final line was 6.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win.

RHP Daniel Duarte followed and threw a scoreeless top of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts on 11 pitches. Senga picked up his third save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, August 17 at home against the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Rally to Beat Nationals 5-4 On Walk-Off Single By Francisco Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 at Citi Field this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 55-69.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF A.J. Ewing led off with a walk and stole second and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

Two batters later, RF Carson Benge walked to load the bases and then 1B Jared Young drove in Ewing and Lindor with a two-run double.

The offense was held scoreless for the next four innings until the bottom of the sixth after Benge led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lindor led off with a single and was thrown out on a fielder's choice. 3B No Bo Bichette then singled and Benge followed with a single. Bichette and Benge advanced on a wild pitch, but then Young struck out and 2B Marcus Semien grounded out to second to end the threat.

In the bottom of the ninth, LF Brett Baty led off with a walk and then 1B Jorge Polanco followed with a single. Catcher Francisco Alvarez then hit the game-tying double to score Baty.

CF A.J. Ewing followed with a strikeout, and then Lindor delivered the walk-off single.

Mets LHP Sean Maanea started out well allowing one run in five innings on a solo homer by 1B Andres Chapparo in the top of the fourth, and then it all unraveled in the top of the sixth.

Manaea hit LF Andrew Pinckey, walked Chappraro and then gave up a three-run homer to 3B Brady House. Manaea was able to respond by getting a strikeout and a double play to get out of the inning.

Manaea came back out for the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to 2B Nasim Nunez who was then picked out and then gave up a triple to Pickney and was then taken out. Manaea's final line was 6.1 innings, six hits, four runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and got RF Dylan Crews to fly out to Benge who made a perfect throw to Alvarez at home to throw out Pickney to end the inning.

Nunez came back out for the top of the eighth and gave up a single and got a strikeout and was taken out.

RHP Jefry Yan came in next and retired the next two hitters. Yan stayed in for the top of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning and picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 16 at home against the Nationals at 1:40 p.m.

Mets Beat Nationals 4-1 Powered By Homers From Lindor and Young

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 54-69.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against LHP Andrew Alvarez and then came alive in the bottom of the sixth.

SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer with two outs and then 3B Bo Bichette struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch by Alvarez.

CF Luis Robert Jr followed with a single and then RF Carson Benge drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Jared Young hit a solo homer with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a walk and later advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Two batters later, Lindor walked and then Bichette followed with a RBI single.

Mets RHP Robert Stock started out well with two scoreless innings and then gave up an unearned run in the top of the third after Lindor made an eror which later resulted in a run.

Stock had a scoreless top  of the fourth and then in the top of the fifth, gave up a lead-off walk, had a strikeout and then a hit by pitch and was taken out.

His final line was 4.1 innings, three hits, one run, (0 earned runs), three walks and five strikeouts.

LHP Nate Lavender followed and picked up last two outs in the top of the fifth.

RHP Jonathan Pintato came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth and also threw a scoreless top of the seventh. Pintaro picked up his first win of the season.

RHP Daniel Duerte followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth to pick up his second career save.

Mets Lose To Braves 6-3 As Offense Continues To Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-3 tonight at Truist Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 53-69.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton had a scoreless bottom of the first and then gave up a solo homer to LF Lane Thomas in the bottom of the second.

In the bottom of the third, Thornton gave up a lead-off walk to RF Ronald Acuna Jr and then a single to DH Drake Baldwin. Thornton then got 1B Matt Olson to ground into a double play, but still brought home a run.

Thornton had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth, and then in the bottom of the fifth, gave up a lead-off double to 3B Austin Riley and a single to catcher Sean Murphy. Thorton then gave up a RBI single to Acuna Jr.

Thornton was able to settle down retiring the next two hitters he faced and then had a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, seven hits, three runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up back-to-back homers to LF Mike Yastrzemski and Riley. Nunez then gave up a double to Acuna and was taken out.

LHP Jefry Yan followed and gave up a RBI single to Baldwin and then picked up last two outs in the inning.

RHP Jack Weisenburger came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until catcher Luis Torrens hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth.

CF Luis Robert Jr hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

3B Bo Bichette added a solo homer in the top of the ninth.

The offense was unable to get clutch hits and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and their next game is on Friday, August 14 back at home at Citi Field against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Shutout by Braves 4-0 Wasting Fine Start from Nolan McLean

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-0 tonight at SunTruist Park to drop their two-game losing streak and dropped their record to 53-68.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean cruised through the first four hits allowing no hits, but then in the bottom of the fifth, gave up a solo homer to 2B Ozzie Albies on a 0-2 count. 

McLean came back to retire the next three hitters and then finished up strong with a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was six innings, one hit, one run, two walks and three strikeouts.

LHP Jefrey Yan came in next in the bottom of the seventh and had a difficult outing with three walks and then a wild pitch to bring in a run. He was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.  

RHP Chayce McDermott followed and after throwing a wild pitch, got 3B Austin Riley to fly out to deep center field and then CF Luis Robert Jr made a nice catch at the wall.

McDermott stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to 1B Matt Olson.

The Met offense did nothing all night managing only four hits including two hits from RF Carson Benge. They went 0-2 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 12 at the Braves at 7:15 p.m.

Mets Beat Braves 8-5 Powered By Baty Grand Slam

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8-5 at SunTruist Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 53-67.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF A.J. Ewing led off with a ground-rule double and then SS Francisco Lindor hit a grounder to second to advance Ewing to third.

3B Bo Bichette then drove in Ewing with a RBI single. RF Carson Benge followed with a walk and 1B Jared Young followed with a single to load the bases.

Two batters later, LF Brett Brett capped off the scoring in the inning with a grand slam to right-center field for his eighth homer and first career grand slam.

In the top of the second, Lindor led off with a double and three batters later, Young drove him in with a RBI single.

In the top of the third, Lindor hit a solo homer.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next five innings until the top of the ninth after Lindor led off with a single and then Bichette followed with a walk and Benge was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Young followed with a sacrifice fly to score Lindor.

Mets RHP Christian Scott had a rocky bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to DH Drake Baldwin and after a strikeout, gave up a single to 1B Matt Olson. Two batters later, Scott hit 2B Ozzie Albies to load the bases and then gave up a two-run single to LF Mauricio Dubon.

Scott was able to respond with a scoreless bottom of the second and a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth. However in the bottom of the fourth, he gave up a single to 3B Austin Riley and walked SS Jim Jarvis.

Two batters later, Scott gave up a RBI single to Baldwin and a RBI single to RF Ronald Acuna Jr. Scott came back to strike out Olson to end the inning and was then taken out.Scott's final line was four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a single and walk to start the inning, and then got a double play, but then threw a wild pitch to bring in a run. Pintaro then walked Riley and struck out Jarvis to end the inning.

LHP Nate Lavendar came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

Lavendar came back out for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off double to CF Michael Harris II and was then taken out.

RHP Daniel Duarte came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh and then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. Duarte picked up his first win of the year.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the bottom of the ninth and struck out Olson and Harris and after walked Albies, got Dubon to fly out for the last out of the game and picked up his first career save.

Devin Williams Placed on IL With Shoulder Strain

The New York Mets announced that closer RHP Devin Williams has been placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder strain. It is retroactive to August 8.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.

Williams has struggled lately and has a 4.66 ERA in 42 games this year.

Mets Rout Pirates 11-1 To Take Series Behind Stellar Effort From Sean Manaea and Offense

The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-1 this afternoon at PNC Park to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 52-67.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after LF A.J. Ewing led off with a hit by pitch and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a hit by pitch. 3B Bo Bichette followed with a single to load the bases.

LF Carson Benge came up next and drove in Ewing with a RBI single and CF Luis Robert Jr followed with a sacrifice fly to score Lindor.

In the top of the third, Bichette reached on an infield hit with one out and two batters later, Robert Jr delivered with a two-run homer. 1B Jared Young followed with a triple and then 2B Marcus Semien delivered with a RBI single to score Young.

In the top of the fourth, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a hit by pitch and Ewing and Lindor followed with walks to load the bases. Bichette came up next and broke the game open with a bases clearing double.

Benge followed with a walk and two batters later, Young drove in Bichette with a RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, Alvarez led off with a homer.

In the top of the seventh, Bichette doubled with one out and two batters later, Robert Jr drove in Bichette with a RBI single.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea had his best start of the season allowing one run on three hits in seven innings. He gave up no walks with 11 strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 4.13.

Mets Shutout By Pirates 9-0 After Robert Stock and Offense Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0 at PNC Park to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 51-67.

Mets RHP Robert Stock got into immiediate trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a double, infield hit and hit batsman to load the bases.  Stock then gave up a RBI ground-out to 3B Nick Gonzalez and a two-run double to RF Ronny Simon.

Stock had a scoreless bottom of the second and then gave up a RBI single to Gonzalez in the bottom of the third.

It all imploded for Stock in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up back-to-back hits to start the inning and then gave up a hit to bring in a run. He then gave up back-to-back walks to load the bases with no outs and then threw a wild pitch to score another run.

Stock then walked 1B Spencer Horwitz to load the bases and gave up a bases-clearing double to Gonzalez and was taken out.

Stock's final line was 3.0 innings, nine hits, eight runs, five walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Xzavion Curry came in next and threw three scoreless innings.

Catcher Luis Torrens followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to 2B Brandon Lowe to lead off the bottom of the seventh, but did not allow any more runs in the inning and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not all night managing only three singles by SS Francisco Lindor, CF Luis Robert Jr, and catcher Francisco Alvarez.

Mets Beat Pirates 6-4 For Fourth Consecutive Win

The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 tonight at PNC Park for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 51-66.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF A.J. Ewing led off with a double and two batters later, 3B Bo Bichette reached on an infield hit. RF Carson Benge followed with a RBI single.

After a scoreless top of the second, Ewing singled to lead off the top of the third and then SS Francisco Lindor followd with a single. Bichette then grounded into a double play and right after that, Lindor stole second.

Benge followed with another RBI single and 1B Jared Young followd with another RBI single. 2B Marcus Semien came up next and hit a three-run homer.

In the top of the fourth with two outs, Ewing was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Lindor followed with a RBI single.

Mets LHP Zach Thornton cruised through the first two innings and then had deal with a 35-minute rain delaybeginning in the top of the third and did not come back on the mound for more than an hour,

Thornton was helped out by his defense in the bottom of the third after Benge made an incredible catch after he had to sprint across the field toward the left field line and made a sliding call. Unfortunaly, Benge had to come out of game shortly after after he appeared to hurt his wrist.

Thornton's defense continued to boost him in the bottom of the fourth after he got a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and then he finished up strong with a scoreless bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was five innings, four hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and five strikeouts. He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.42.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth and came back for the bottom of the seventh and gave up two runs.

RHP Daniel Duerte followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up two runs, but was able to pick up the last three outs and close it out.

Mets Rout Guardians To Sweep Series 13-6 With Offensive Outburst

The New York Mets beat the Cleveland Guardians 13-6 this afternoon at Progressive Field to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 50-66.

After a scoreless top of the first, 2B Marcus Semien hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the second and then 1B Eric Wagaman followed with a single and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the third, 3B Bo Bichette led off with a walk and two batters later, RF Carson Benge hit a RBI triple.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a walk and then Semien hit a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, Alvarez walked again with one out and Semien followed with a double. Jared Young came up next to pinch-hit for Wagaman and hit a RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, Semien led off with a single and then Young grounded into a fielder's choice. 

Young then stole second and Torrens singled to advance Young to third. OF A.J. Ewing then hit a sacrifice bunt and SS Francisco Lindor came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

In the top of the eighth, CF Luis Robert Jr led off with an infield hit and then Benge followed with a single and advance to second on a wild pitch.

Alvarez came up next drove in Robert Jr with a RBI double and Semien followed with a walk.

Young and Torrens followed with bases loaded walks and three batters later, Bichette reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean struggled with his command in the bottom of the first with a couple of walks which led to a two-run single by LF Angel Martinez. McLean was able to limit the damage to two runs by escaping out of a based loaed jam with two outs.

McLean was able to settle down for the next three innings needing only 39 pitches and retiring eight hiters in a row.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, he gave up back-to-back singles to RF Chase DeLauter and 3B Jose Ramirez and then gave up a three-run homer to 1B Nathaniel Lowe. and was taken out after the inning.

McLean's final line was five innings, eight hits, five runs, three walks and eight strikeouts. He picked up his eighth win and his ERA went up to 3.51.

LHP Nate Lavendar followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Kodai Senga came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Xzavion Curry followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth and then gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to pick up last three outs and close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 7 at the Pittsbugh Pirates at 6:40 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Guardians 6-5 in 10 Innings

The New York Mets beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-5 in 10 innings tonight at Progressive Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 49-66.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after LF Brett Baty and DH Jorge Polanco hit back-to-back homers.

In the top of the fourth, RF Carson Benge reached on an error with one out and then 1B Jared Young followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, Benge hit a solo homer.

The offense did not score in the top of the seventh and eighth innings, and then came alive in the top of the ninth.

1B Jared Young led off with a walk and three batters later with two outs, Polanco doubled. 2B Marcus Semien then walked to load the bases and then CF A.J. Ewing reached on an error by 2B Travis Bazzana.

In the top of the tenth, 3B Bo Bichette hit a game-winning double.

Mets RHP Christian Scott started out well with three scoreless innings and then gave up a RBI single to Bazzana in the bottom of the fourth and then came back to get three straight outs with two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth, Scott loaded the bases and then gave up a two-run single to 1B Nataniel Lowe and was taken out after the inning with the game tied.

Scott's final line was five innings, six hits, three runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

LHP Jefry Yan came in next in the bottom of the sixth in his ML debut and escaped out of a based loaded jam.

RHP Dedneil Nunez followed in the bottom of the seventh in his return back to the Major Leagues and was hurt by his defense to start the inning after Young made a fielding error and then Nunez gave up a RBI double to catcher Patrick Bailey and a RBI single to 3B Angel Genao.

RHP Chayce McDermott followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth. McDermott picked up his first win.

RHP Daniel Duerte closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the tenth and picked up his first save.

Mets Beat Guardians 6-2 Powered By Luis Torrens

The New York Mets beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-2 tonight at Progressive Field to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 48-66.

After a scoreless top of the first, in the top of the second with two outs, 2B Marcus Semien reached on an error with two outs and then 1B Jared Young followed with a walk. Catcher Luis Torrens came up next and hit a three-run homer.

In the top of the third, 3B Bo Bichette hit a solo homer to deep left field that traveled 422 feet.

In the top of the fourth, Semien led off with a walk and after Young grounded out, Torrens drove in Semien with a RBI single for his fourth RBI of the game.

In the top of the eighth, RF Carson Benge hit a 451-foot solo homer to left-center field.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea allowed the first three hitters to reach base in the bottom of the first, but then came back with two strikeouts and a force out to escape trouble.

Manaea was helped out by his defense in the bottom of the second after Benge threw out SS Brayan Rocchio trying to go first to third on a single by CF Steven Kwan.

Manaea gave up a lead-off to RF Jo Adell in the bottom of the third and then walked DH Chase DeLauter and and two batters later, gave up a RBI double to LF Angel Martinez.

Manaea had a scoreless bottom of the fourth and gave up a two-out RBI single to 2B Travis Bazzana in the bottom of the fifth, but then struck out 3B Gabriel Arias to end the inning.

Manaea was able to pitch a scoreless bottom of the sixth by getting a strikeout and 4-3 double play on a soft liner to end the inning.

His final line was six innings, seven hits, two runs, five walks and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 4.33.

RHP Daniel Duerte came in next in the bottom of the seventh and got into trouble after SS Francisco Lindor made an error and then walked DeLautner.

Duerte came back to retire the next two hitters and was then taken out.

LHP Nate Lavendar followed in his ML debut and struck out Bazzana to end the inning.

Lavendar stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning and was able to get a groundball double play to end the inning.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the bottom of the ninth in his first outing out of the bullpen and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

Mets Trade Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor to Cubs

The New York Mets traded RHP Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the Chicago Cubs for infield prospect Jefferson Rojas.

Rojas is ranked as the Cubs number 2 prospect and has played all infield positions and has a .799 OPS this season with Double-A Knoxville.

Holmes got off to an outstanding start with a 2.39 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over his first nine outings but had an unfortunate injury on May 15th against the Yankees with a comebacker broke his fibula.

It is expected that Holmes will decline his 2027 player option and become a free agent.

Taylor was acquired from the Brewers in 2024 and had a strong season in 2024 with a .701 OPS in 130 games with plus defense in center field.

This year he has hit for a lot more power hitting seven homers with 14 RBI in 24 games since returning off the IL with a hip injury.


Mets Trade Luke Weaver to Pirates

The New York Mets traded reliever RHP Luke Weaver to the Pittsburgh Pirates for infield prospect Sammy Stafura.

Stafura is ranked as the no 9 prospect in the Pirates minor league system according to MLB Pipeline.

He is hitting .276 with 20 homers, 20 stolen bases and 54 RBI in 60 games for A-level Bradenton and High-A Greensboro.

Weaver had a spectacular year for the Mets with a 1.84 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 45 strikeouts in 44 innings across 42 games in a Met uniform.

Now with Weaver gone as well as Brooks Raley , Huascar Brazoban and A.J. Minter, the Met bullpen will look drastically different with Devin Williams as the only current member of the bullpen who will be on the team in 2027.

The New York Mets traded LHP Brooks Raley to the Philadelphia Phillies for prospects outfielder John Spikerman and right-handed pitcher Luke Gabrysh.

Spikerman is the Phillies 27th ranked prospect who is known as a plus defender. He was selected in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Spikerman has a ,754 OPS this year for Single-A Clearwater and High-A Jersey Shore with a .423 OPS in High-A.

Gabrush was drafted in the 15th round of the 2024 draft. He has a 4.17 ERA and 1.131 WHIP over 146.2 innings in two minor league seasons. Gabrush has 89 strikeouts in 68.1 innings in 18 games (17 starts) with High Single-A.

Raley did a fine job as a Met with a 1.96 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 41.1 innings this year over 45 appearances.

He posted a 2.31 ERA an 1.08 WHIP in 128.2 innings in his total Mets career.

The New York Mets traded reliever RHP Huascar Brazoban to the Chicago White Sox for right-handed pitching prospects Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin.

Davis is the White Sox 18th ranked prospect. He was a fifth round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. He was promoted to Double-A Birmingham at the end of May. He began the year in High-A Winston Salem where had a 2.63 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in eight starts. In 10 Double-A starts, he had a 8.31 ERA and 1.85 WHIP.

Franklin is 27 years old and has pitched in Triple-A Charlotte this year and has a 1.13 WHIP, two holds, and five saves in six opportunities.

Brazoban was acquired by the Mets from the Miami Marlins in 2024. He had a fine year for the Mets in 2026 with a 2.61 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 51.2 innings.

Mets Shutout By Marlins 2-0 To Lose Series Wasting Several Scoring Opportunities

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 2-0 at Citi Field this afternoon for their third consecutive loss to drop their record to 47-66.

Mets RHP Robert Stock made his first start since 2021 and did a fine job allowing one run on three hits in five innings. He gave up no walks with four strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams gave up a run in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by 2B Xavier Edwards.

The Met offense did not do much for the first six innings against RHP Sandy Alcantara and then finally came alive in the bottom of the seventh.

CF Luis Robert Jr led off with a single and 1B Jared Young followed with a double. 2B Marcus Semien then walked to load the bases with no outs.

However, DH Jorge Polanco and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with strikeouts and then LF A.J. Ewing grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double, but then 3B Bo Bichette flew out to centerfield, RF Carson Benge grounded out to second and Robert Jr. flew out to left.

In the bottom of the ninth, Alvarez walked with two outs and then Ewing flew out to centerfield for the last out.

The offense was unable to come up with any timely hits and was unable to deliver with men on base. They went 0-12 with runners in scoring position leaving 10 runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow as they look ahead to the trading deadline at 6:00 p.m. They return back to action on Tuesday, August 4 at the Cleveland Guardians at 6:40 p.m.

Mets Trade Freddy Peralta To Rays

The New York Mets traded RHP Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects Aidan Smith, Emillen Pitre and Gary Gill Hill.

Peralta had a disappointing season for the Mets with a 4.99 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 22 starts.

Smith is a 22-year outfielder who was the Rays 15th best prospect. Gill Hill is a 21-year old starting pitcher who is the Rays 26th prospect.

Pitre is 23-year old infielder who is ranked 27th in the Rays minor league system. He is known for his hitting and speed with .308 average with 32 stolen bases and 28 XBH's in 88 games between High-A and Double-A this season.

Mets Lose To Marlins 6-2 After Offense Struugles

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 6-2 at Citi Field this afternoon for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 47-65.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton was let down by his defense in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor made an error on the first play of the game on a routine grounder. The error led to a run on a RBI single by catcher Liam Hicks.

In the top of the second, Thornton gave up a two-run homer to RF Javier Sanoja.

Thornton had a scoreless top of the third and then gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Otto Lopez in the top of the fourth 

Thorton picked up two outs in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.2 innings, six hits, four runs, (three runs), three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Daniel Duarte came in next and gave up a two-run homer to DH Griffin Conine in the top of the sixth. 

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Kevin Herget threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a two-run homer by LF Tyrone Taylor in the bottom of the second. Taylor has been locked in at the plate since he returned from the injured list on June 26th. He is hitting .354 with seven home runs, four doubles and 14 RBI. He leads the majors in OPS since June 28th at 1,287.

The offense went 0-1 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.
