The New York Mets traded RHP Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the Chicago Cubs for infield prospect Jefferson Rojas.

Rojas is ranked as the Cubs number 2 prospect and has played all infield positions and has a .799 OPS this season with Double-A Knoxville.

Holmes got off to an outstanding start with a 2.39 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over his first nine outings but had an unfortunate injury on May 15th against the Yankees with a comebacker broke his fibula.

It is expected that Holmes will decline his 2027 player option and become a free agent.

Taylor was acquired from the Brewers in 2024 and had a strong season in 2024 with a .701 OPS in 130 games with plus defense in center field.

This year he has hit for a lot more power hitting seven homers with 14 RBI in 24 games since returning off the IL with a hip injury.
