The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 5-2 tonight at Citi Field to snap their four-game winning streak and dropped their record to 57-70.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a homer to RF Fernando Tatis Jr on the first pitch of the game.

Thornton was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth, but in the top of the fifth gave up a two-run homer to Tatis Jr and was taken out after the inning.

Thorton's final line was five innings, six hits, three runs, one walk and seven strikeouts.

RHP Jake Weisenburger came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth. Weisenburger came back out for the top of the seventh and gave up back-to-back walks with one out and was then taken out.

LHP Jefry Yan followed and gave up a RBI single to 1B Ty France and came out after the inning.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. Nunez stayed in for the top of the ninth and gave up a solo homer to 3B Manny Machado.

The Met offense had a golden scoring opportunity to score in the bottom of the second loading the bases with two outs, but then Tatis Jr made an incredible catch to rob SS Francisco Lindor of a grand slam.

The offense finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after catcher Luis Torrens hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, CF Luis Robert Jr also hit a solo homer.

The Met offense struggled all night with men on base and failed to get a timely hit. They went 0-11 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, August 19 at home against the Padres at 1:10 p.m.
