Mets Lose To White Sox 2-1 On Walk-Off Homer

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago White Sox 2-1 this afternoon at Rate Field to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 59-72.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean cruised through the first two innings and then escaped out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the third after he struck out DH Andrew Benintendi with two outs.

McLean then had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth and worked around a hit by pitch in the bottom of the fifth. He had a scoreless bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, one hit, 0 runs, four walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Daniel Duarte gave up a RBI double to Benitendi in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a walk-off homer to CF Tristan Peters.

The Met offense did not do much for the first six innings and had a chance to score in the top of the seventh after RF Carson Benge led off with a ground-rule double and then LF Luis Robert Jr followed with a walk. However, 1B Jared Young, pinch-hitter Francisco Alvarez and 2B Marcus Semien all struck out against rookie LHP Hagen Smith.

In the top of the ninth, Benge singled with one out and then Robert Jr followed with another walk. Young came up next and drove in Benge with a RBI single to tie the game. Alvarez then struck out and Semien followed with a walk to load the bases with two outs. CF A.J. Ewing came up who has been struggling mightly and then struck out to end the threat.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base after they went 1-9 with runners in scoring positon leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to home to Citi Field on Tuesday, August 25 against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 p.m.
