Mets Shutout By Marlins 2-0 To Lose Series Wasting Several Scoring Opportunities

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 2-0 at Citi Field this afternoon for their third consecutive loss to drop their record to 47-66.

Mets RHP Robert Stock made his first start since 2021 and did a fine job allowing one run on three hits in five innings. He gave up no walks with four strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams gave up a run in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by 2B Xavier Edwards.

The Met offense did not do much for the first six innings against RHP Sandy Alcantara and then finally came alive in the bottom of the seventh.

CF Luis Robert Jr led off with a single and 1B Jared Young followed with a double. 2B Marcus Semien then walked to load the bases with no outs.

However, DH Jorge Polanco and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with strikeouts and then LF A.J. Ewing grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double, but then 3B Bo Bichette flew out to centerfield, RF Carson Benge grounded out to second and Robert Jr. flew out to left.

In the bottom of the ninth, Alvarez walked with two outs and then Ewing flew out to centerfield for the last out.

The offense was unable to come up with any timely hits and was unable to deliver with men on base. They went 0-12 with runners in scoring position leaving 10 runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow as they look ahead to the trading deadline at 6:00 p.m. They return back to action on Tuesday, August 4 at the Cleveland Guardians at 6:40 p.m.
