The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 58-70.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings and then came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

CF A.J. Ewing led off with a single and then SS Francisco Lindor grounded into a double play. 3B Bo Bichette followed with a walk and RF Carson Benge came up next and hit a two-run homer.

The offense did not score for the next three innings until the bottom of the inning after Ewing walked with one out and stole second and then Lindor followed with a single. Bichette then grounded into a fielder's choice and caught a break when SS Sung-Mun Song made a throwing error to score Ewing and put two more runners in scoring position.

Two batters later, 1B Jared Young drove in Bichette with a RBI single.

Mets RHP Robert Stock started out well with four scoreless innungs and then in the top of the fifth, gave up a lead-off double to SS Xander Bogaerts and two batters later, a RBI double to DH Manny Machado and was then taken out.

Stock's final line was 4.1 innings, two hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Jonathan Pintato followed and picked up last two outs in the top of the fifth
