Mets Lose To Marlins 6-2 After Offense Struugles

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 6-2 at Citi Field this afternoon for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 47-65.

Mets LHP Zac Thornton was let down by his defense in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor made an error on the first play of the game on a routine grounder. The error led to a run on a RBI single by catcher Liam Hicks.

In the top of the second, Thornton gave up a two-run homer to RF Javier Sanoja.

Thornton had a scoreless top of the third and then gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Otto Lopez in the top of the fourth 

Thorton picked up two outs in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.2 innings, six hits, four runs, (three runs), three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Daniel Duarte came in next and gave up a two-run homer to DH Griffin Conine in the top of the sixth. 

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Kevin Herget threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a two-run homer by LF Tyrone Taylor in the bottom of the second. Taylor has been locked in at the plate since he returned from the injured list on June 26th. He is hitting .354 with seven home runs, four doubles and 14 RBI. He leads the majors in OPS since June 28th at 1,287.

The offense went 0-1 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 2 at home against the Marlins at 1:40 p.m.
