Mets Beat Braves 8-5 Powered By Baty Grand Slam

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8-5 at SunTruist Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 53-67.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF A.J. Ewing led off with a ground-rule double and then SS Francisco Lindor hit a grounder to second to advance Ewing to third.

3B Bo Bichette then drove in Ewing with a RBI single. RF Carson Benge followed with a walk and 1B Jared Young followed with a single to load the bases.

Two batters later, LF Brett Brett capped off the scoring in the inning with a grand slam to right-center field for his eighth homer and first career grand slam.

In the top of the second, Lindor led off with a double and three batters later, Young drove him in with a RBI single.

In the top of the third, Lindor hit a solo homer.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next five innings until the top of the ninth after Lindor led off with a single and then Bichette followed with a walk and Benge was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Young followed with a sacrifice fly to score Lindor.

Mets RHP Christian Scott had a rocky bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to DH Drake Baldwin and after a strikeout, gave up a single to 1B Matt Olson. Two batters later, Scott hit 2B Ozzie Albies to load the bases and then gave up a two-run single to LF Mauricio Dubon.

Scott was able to respond with a scoreless bottom of the second and a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth. However in the bottom of the fourth, he gave up a single to 3B Austin Riley and walked SS Jim Jarvis.

Two batters later, Scott gave up a RBI single to Baldwin and a RBI single to RF Ronald Acuna Jr. Scott came back to strike out Olson to end the inning and was then taken out.Scott's final line was four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a single and walk to start the inning, and then got a double play, but then threw a wild pitch to bring in a run. Pintaro then walked Riley and struck out Jarvis to end the inning.

LHP Nate Lavendar came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

Lavendar came back out for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off double to CF Michael Harris II and was then taken out.

RHP Daniel Duarte came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh and then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. Duarte picked up his first win of the year.

RHP Kodai Senga came on in the bottom of the ninth and struck out Olson and Harris and after walked Albies, got Dubon to fly out for the last out of the game and picked up his first career save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 11 at the Braves at 7:15 p.m.
