Mets Lose To Brewers 8-2 After Sean Manaea Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 60-74.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea got into immediate trouble in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to LF Jackson Churio on the first pitch of the game and then walked the following hitter CF Luis Lara.

Two batters later, Manaea gave up a RBI single to 1B Andrew Vaughn and then a RBI single by catcher Gary Sanchez.

Manaea retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the second, but then made an error on a routine grounder back to him and then gave up a two-run homer to Churio.

Manaea was able to bounce back with scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, bur in the top of the fifth, gave up a lead-off single to Churio who stole second and then Laea followed with a single. DH Wilson Contreras followed with a RBI ground-out.

In the top of the sixth, Manaea gave up a lead-off triple to 3B Junior Ortiz and two batters later, a sacrifice fly by SS Copper Pratt and was taken out after he gave up a double to the following hitter 2B David Hamilton.

RHP Xzavion Curry followed and picked up last out in the inning. Manaea's final line was 5.2 innings, eight hits, six runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

Curry stayed in for the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning and came back out for the top of the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to Churio.

RHP Austin Warren followed and threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against superstar RHP Jacob Misiorowski and then came alive for their only two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

CF Luis Robert Jr led off with a walk and then 1B Jared Young followed with a RBI double. Three batters later, DH Christopher Morel drove in Young with a RBI single. 

The offense did not do much after that and went 1-5 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 28 at home against the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m.
