Mets Hang On To Beat Nationals 2-1 Behind Bichette Two-Run Double and Stellar Pitching

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 this afternoon at Nationals Park to snap their two-game losing streak and split their four game series and improved their record to 22-28.

The Met offense did not do much outside of the top of the third when D.H. M.J. Melendez was hit by a pitch was hit by a pitch with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed by reaching on an infield hit.

RF Carson Benge then singled to load the bases and SS Bo Bichette drove in Melendez and Torrens with a two-run single up the middle.

They had a chance to break the game open in the top of the ninth with the based loaded and no out, but Melendez struck out, Torrens lined out to second baseman Nasim Nunez and Benge flew out to deep right centerfield that was knocked out by the wind.

Mets LHP David Peterson retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the first and then walked three straight hitters to load the bases. Peterson was able to escape out of trouble and then settled down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth.

Peterson gave up a run in the bottom of the fifth and was able to get out of further trouble after 1B Mark Vientos made a nice diving grab to his left to strand runner at third base.

Peterson was taken out after the inning and his final line was five innings, four hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 5.03.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came on in the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Devin Williams followed in the bottom of the ninth and got off to a rocky start after CF A.J. Ewing misplayed a fly ball by DH Daylen Lile due to a wind which lead to a lead-off double.

Williams was able to get the next out on a ground-out and then came back to strike out pinch-hitter Jose Tena swinging at a change-up in the dirt and then was able to retire catcher Keibert Ruiz on a ground-out to close out the game.

Williams picked up his seventh save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, May 22 at the Miami Marlins at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose to Nationals 8-4 And Waste Two Homers From Juan Soto

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-4 tonight at Nationals Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 21-28.

LHP Zack Thornton made his ML debut and got off to a difficult start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a three-run homer to SS C.J. Abrams.

Thornton gave up another walk in the bottom of the second after he gave up a walk and then catcher Hayden Senger made up a throwing error to advance the runner to the third. This lead to a sacrifice fly by catcher Keibert Ruiz.

Thornton was able to settle down after that retiring the next eight hitters in a row.

Thornton gave up a lead-off double to Ruiz in the bottom of the fifth and a fly out by LF James Wood and was then taken out.

Thornton's final line was 4.1 innings, four runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Adam Warren came in next and was helped out by his defense after RF Carson Benge made a strong throw to throw out Ruiz at home for the last out in the inning.

Warren stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning and a sacrifice fly to LF Daylen Lile and a double to CF Jacob Young and was taken out.

RHP Craig Kimbrel followed and gave up a sacrifice fly to 2B Nasim Nunez.

Kimbrel stayed in the for the bottom of the seventh and had a 1-2-3 inning. He stayed in for the bottom of the eighth after he gave up a two-run homer to Young.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Mark Vientos doubled to lead off the top of the second and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty drove in Vientos with a RBI single.

In the top of the third, LF Juan Soto hit a solo homer.

In the top of the eighth, SS Bo Bichette singled and Soto followd with a two-run homer, his second homer of the game.

The Met offense did not do much all night and they went 1-3 with runners in scoring position leaving three runners on base.

Mets Lose to Nationals 9-6 After Nolan McLean along with poor defense blows five Run Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 9-6 tonight at Nationals Park to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 21-27.

RHP Nolan McLean had a scoreless bottom of the first, but then it fell apart for him in the bottom of the second. 

McLean retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up a double, hit by pitch, infield hit to load the bases and then an inside-the park grand slam by 1B James Wood. LF Nick Morabito making his ML debut nearly caught but the ball went off his glove and rolled into center field.

McLean's struggles continued in the bottom of the third after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Jose Tena and then walked 2B C.J Abrams.

McLean then gave up a single to LF Daylen Lile and a passed ball which scored the go-ahead run. Two batters later, McLean gave up a sacrifice fly to Vivas.

McLean was let down by his defense in the bottom of the fourth after 2B Marcus Semien made a throwing error and then catcher Luis Torrens made a throwing error which allowed two runs to score.

McLean stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.

McLean retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the sixth and then hit Abrams and was taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, eight hits, nine runs, (six earned runs), two walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Daniel Duerte who was recalled from Triple-A threw 2.1 scoreless innings.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after RF Carson Benge led off with an infield hit and 3B Bo Bichette followed with a two-run homer. DH Juan Soto followed with a single and 1B Mark Vientos followed with a double. 2B Marcus Semien then drove in Soto with a sacrfice fly.

In the top of the second, Benge singled with two outs and then Bichette followed with a two-run homer, his second homer of the game.

In the top of the seventh, Soto added a solo homer.

The Met offense was unable to come up with any timely hits and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.

Mets Call Up Outfield Prospect Nick Morabito

The New York Mets are promoting top outfield prospect Nick Morabito after they designated Austin Slater for assignment on Tuesday morning.

Morabito, 23, was a second round pick by the Mets in 2022 out of Gonzaga High School in Washington, DC. He is known for hitting for contact, defense in the outfield and amazing speed. 

Morabito had a .754 OPS with four homers, seven other extra-base hits, and 21 stolen bases in 41 games this year for Triple-A Syracuse. He had mostly played centerfield, but can play all three outfield positions and very little experience at second base.

It's possible that Morabito could play left field if Juan Soto goes to DH with his injuries this season. He could also come off the bench as a platoon option against lefties, a late-inning defensive replacement and a pinch-running specialist.

If Morabito plays left field, he would help form one of the fastest and best defensive outfields in baseball with fellow rookies Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing.

Benge and Ewing have been sparkplugs in the Mets improved play in their 11-5 stretch recently and Morabito will only help to add more energy, enthusiasm and excitement to their youth movement.

Mets Beat Nationals 16-7 in 12 Innings With 10-Run 12th Inning

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 16-7 in 12 innings tonight at Nationals Park for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 21-26.

The Met offense was held scoreless in the top of the first and then in the top of the second with two outs, LF Tyrone Taylor singled and catcher Luis Torrens followed with a RBI double.

After a scoreless top of the third, 3B Brett Baty homered to lead off the top of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Torrens led off and reached on an error by 1B Luis Garcia Jr and RF Carson Benge followed with a walk. SS Bo Bichette then flew out to right to advance Torrens and Benge to second and third. 

DH Juan Soto came up next and drove in Torrens and Benge with a two-run single.

In the top of the seventh, Bichette finally came through with a solo homer.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the eleventh after Baty advanced pinch-runner Vidal Brujan to third wih a fly-out and then 2B Marcus Semien drove in Brujan with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the twelfth, catcher Hayden Senger lead off with a sacrifice bunt to advance Taylor to third.

Benge then reached on an infield hit which brought home a run. Bichette followed with a single and Soto was intentionally walked.

Brujan then reached on a bunt single to score Benge.

Baty followed with a two-run single to score Bichette and Soto.

Semian followed with a RBI single to score Brujan.

CF A.J. Ewing followed with a RBI single to score Baty.

Two batters later, Senger singled to load the bases. 

Benge and Bichette then capped off the scoring two-run doubles.

Mets RHP Christian Scott started out well with a 1-2-3 bottom of the first and struck out the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the second before hitting CF Jacob Young in the ribs.

Scott was clearly rattled by this and gave up a double to the next hitter DH Jose Tena and then walked 2B Jorbit Vivas. Scott gave up a RBI single to the following hitter catcher Jorbit Vivas.

Scott's struggles continued in the bottom of the third after he gave up a single and walk and a RBI double to CF Joey Wiemer.

Scott had a scoreless bottom of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, four hits, three runs, three walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Adam Warren followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth.

LHP Brooks Raley came on in the bottom of the seventh and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off double to RF James Wood and back-to-backs walks to load the bases. Raley gave up a sacrifice fly to SS C.J. Abrams and two batters later was taken out.

RHP Tobias Myers followed and walked Wiemer to load the bases and then struck out Tena to escape out of trouble.

Myers stayed in for bottom 8th and retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up a single to Wood and a game-tying RBI double to pinch-hitter Curtis Mead.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed in the bottom of the tenth and fielded a bunt to get the first out and then walked Wood. 

Brazoban then walked the based loaded and got 2B Nasim Nunez to ground out to 1B Mark Vientos who threw home and picked up the second out of the inning. Brazoban struck out the following hitter Abrams to end the inning.

Brazoban stayed in for the bottom of the eleventh and gave up a run after a comebacker advanced the runner to third and then an infield hit tied the game. He was able to get a ground-ball that Baty threw to second to pick up the second out on a heads up play. Brazoban was able to keep the game tied after getting a ground-out to Brujan to end the inning.

Brazoban picked up his third win of the season.

RHP Craig Kimbrel came on in the bottom of the 12th and gave up a RBI single to Wood and a two-run double, but was able to pick up last three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 19 at the Nationals at 6:45 p.m.

Mets Call Up Pitching Prospect LHP Zach Thornton

New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announced that they are calling up LHP Zach Thornton from Triple-A Syracuse.

Mendoza said that Thornton could start, but there might also be an opener in front of him. 

Thornton is ranked as the #13 best prospect in the Mets minor league system and is known for his command and control.

He made five starts at Double-A Binghamton to start the 2026 season and then made two starts in Triple-A where he pitched a 2.25 ERA.

With calling up Thornton, the Mets filled a role in the starting rotation with RHP Kodai Senga and RHP Clay Holmes on the IL. 

The rotation now includes RHP Freddy Peralta, RHP Nolan McLean, RHP Christian Scott, Thornton and LHP David Peterson in bulk relief with an opener in front of him.

Mets Rally To Beat Yankees 7-6 in 10 Innings To Take Series With Clutch Hitting By Tyrone Taylor and Carson Benge

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in 10 innings this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the first round of the Subway Series and improved their record to 20-26.

RHP Freddy Peralta started out well with two scoreless innings and then gave up a solo homer to 1B Ben Rice in the top of the third.

Peralta was able to settle down with 1-2-3 innings in the top of the fourth and fifth, but then ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after giving up back-to back walks to LF Cody Bellinger and 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr and was then taken out.

LHP Sean Manaea came in next and gave up a sacrifice bunt to 3B Ryan McMahon and then hit pinch-hitter Paul Goldschmidr.

Manaea then gave up a two-run single to SS Anthony Volpe and a sacrifice fly to pinch-hitter Amed Rosario.

Manaea was then let down by his defense after SS Bo Bichette dropped a pop-up which allowed Volpe to score.

In the top of the seventh, Manaea gave up back-to-back singles to Bellinger and Chisham and then walked pinch-hitter Max Schuemann. 

Manaea gave up a based loaded walk to Volpe.

Manaea stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a 1-2-3 inning and also had a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.

RHP Devin Williams came on in the top of the tenth and threw a scoreless inning helped out by a sweet double play started by 1B Mark Vientos to end the inning. Williams picked up his third win of the season.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against RHP Elmer Rodriguez, but then broke through in the bottom of the fourth. 

1B Mark Vientos singled with one out and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty singled. 2B Marcus Semien followed with a RBI double to score Vientos.

In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Marcus Semien singled with one out and CF A.J. Ewing followed with a walk. Catcher Luis Torrens came up next and came through with a two-run double to score Semien and Ewing.

In the bottom of the ninth, RF Carson Benge led off with a single and SS Bo Bichette followed with a single.

After DH Juan Soto grounded into a fielder's choice and Vientos struck out, pinch hitter/left fielder Tyrone Taylor came up and delivered the game-tying three-run homer that just stayed fair inside the left field foul pole.

In the bottom of the tenth, Ewing led off with a beautiful sacrifice bunt to advance ghost runner Semien to third and then Torrens was hit by pitch.

Benge came up next and and hit a chopper up the middle in which two Yankee infielders collided to allow Semien to score game-winning run.

Mets Beat Yankees 6-3 Behind Clutch Hitting From Vientos And Strong Work By Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 6-3 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 19-26.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings and then broke through in the bottom of the third.

Brett Baty struck out to lead off the inning and then catcher Luis Torrens also struck out, but RF Carson Benge followed with a double. SS Bo Bichette and LF Juan Soto followed with walks of their own to load the bases.

Yankees LHP Carlos Rodon then threw a wild pitch too high for catcher Austin Wells that all went the way ball behind home plate to score Benge. Rodon then made a poor throw to the plate past Wells which allowed Bichette to score a run as well.

In the bottom of the fourth, D.H. Austin Slater walked with two outs and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a RBI double.

In the bottom of the fifth, Benge led off with a single and two batters later, Soto walked. 1B Mark Vientos came up next and delivered a much needed two-run double down the left field line.

In the bottom of the seventh, Benge led off with an infield hit and two batters later, Soto singled. Vientos came up next and drove in his third run of the game with a RBI ground-out.

Mets reliever RHP Huacar Brazoban got the start as an "opener" and did a fine job retiring all four hitters he faced.

LHP David Peterson came in next with one out in the top of the second and gave up a lead-off double to 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr and two batters later, a RBI single to CF Trent Grisham.

Peterson was able to settle down after that with a scoreless top of the third and had a 1-2-3 top of the fourth.

Peterson got into trouble in the top of the fifth after he hit DH Ben Rice and walked RF Aaron Judge. Two batters later, Peterson gave up a RBI single to 1B Paul Goldschmidt, but then came back to strike out Chisholm Jr to end the inning.

Peterson came back out for the top of the sixth and gave up a lead-off double to former Met 3B Amed Rosario and then struck out Grisham and walked SS Anthony Volpe and was then taken out.

Peterson's final line was 4.0 innings, six hits, two runs, three walks and eight strikeouts. He picked up his second win.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and struck out catcher Austin Wells and retired Wells on a ground-out to first to end the inning.

Raley stayed in for the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off double to Judge and then was let down by his defense after Benge dropped a routine fly ball by LF Cody Bellinger which allowed Judge to score and advance Bellinger to second.

Raley then hit Goldscmidt and allowed Chisholm Jr to reach first on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs and was then taken out.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next with the bases loaded and no outs and then saved the game after he struck out Rosario and Grisham and got Volpe to ground out to short to end the threat.

Weaver stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Devin Williams closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth and picked up his sixth save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, May 17 at home against the Yankees at 1:40 p.m.

Mets RHP Clay Holmes Suffers Fractured Fibula

New York Mets manager announced after last night's game that RHP Clay Holmes will go on the injured list with a fractured fibula. Holmes was hit on a comebacker off DH Spencer Jones in the fourth inning of last night's game against the Yankees. Holmes finished the fourth inning and then came back out for the top of the fifth and left with two batters on.

It is unknown how long Holmes will be out.

The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 5-2 tonight at Citi Field in the first game of the Subway Series to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 18-26.

Mets RHP Clay Holmes started out well with two scoreless innings, and it all fell apart in the top of the third.

Holmes retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up back-to-back singles to 1B Ben Rice and RF Aaron Judge. Hodges gave up a RBI double to the following hitter LF Cody Bellinger and then a two-run double to the next hitter 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. 

In the top of the fourth, Holmes was hit on the foot on a line drive by DH Spencer Jones, but stayed in the game. Holmes was able to escape out of trouble after he retired RF Aaron Judge on a flyout to end the inning.

Holmes stayed in for the beginning of the top of the fifth and was taken out with one out in the inning.

His final line was 4.1 innings, seven hits, four runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Adam Warren came in next and gave up a RBI single to DH Spencer Jones.

Warren stayed in for the top of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning.

Mets Sweep Tigers 9-4 Powered By Five Homers

The New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers 9-4 this afternoon at Citi Field to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 18-25.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after CF A.J. Ewing led off with a homer for the first homer of his career.

In the bottom of the fourth, LF M.J. Melendez walked with two outs and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a two-run home to tie the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, RF Carson Benge singled with one out and stole second. Two batters later, DH Juan Soto drove in Benge with the go-ahead RBI single. 1B Mark Vientos followed with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Marcus Semien walked with one out and Ewing followed with a single. Catcher Hayden Senger then drove in Semien with a sacrifice bunt.

In the bottom of the seventh, Soto led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Semien led off with a homer.

RHP Nolan McLean got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a walk and single ad then three-run homer to 2B Gage Workman.

McLean settled down after that and did not give up any more despite dealing with runners on base throughout the game.

He finished up strong in the top of the seventh striking out the last two hitters he faced and was then taken out.

His final line was seven innings, six hits, three runs, three walks and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his second win.

RHP Tobias Myers followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to DH Dillion Dingler.

RHP Craig Kimbrel came in next and closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 17-25.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Mark Vientos singled to lead off the bottom of the second and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty singled to advance Vientos to third. CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a RBI ground-out to score Vientos.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next four innings until the bottom of the seventh after catcher Luis Torrens walked with two outs and then RF Carson Benge followed with a single. SS Bo Bichtte came up next and drove in Torrens with game-tying run.

In the bottom of the tenth, Torrens struck out to lead off the inning and then Benge drove in CF A.J. Ewing with walk-off single after Ewing started out on second base as the "ghost runner."

RHP Christian Scott allowed two runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He gave up two walks with five strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with 2.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw as scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his first win.

Mets Rout Tigers 10-2 Behind Stellar Debut By A.J. Ewing

The New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers 10-2 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 16-25.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, DH M.J. Melendez led off with a walk in the bottom of the second and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a single. 

Two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing walked in his first ML at-bat and then catcher Francisco Alvarez grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in a run and score Melendez.

In the bottom of the third, SS Bo Bichette led off with a single and then LF Juan Soto followed with a single. 1B Mark Vientos came up next and drove in Bichette with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, catcher Francisco Alvarez doubled with one out and then Carson Benge followed with a RBI single to the opposite field to score Alvarez. Alvarez came out in the bottom of the sixth after he twisted his knee while trying to swing.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ewing walked with one out and then stole second.  Catcher Luis Torrens followed with a walk and Benge reached on an infield hit to load the bases.

Bichette came up next and caught a break after he grounded to third and Tigers 3B Gage Workman made a poor throw to second which allowed Ewing and Torrens to score. Soto followed with a RBI ground-out to score Benge.

In the bottom of the seventh, 3B Brett Baty reached on an infield hit with one out and two batters later, Ewing drove in his first career RBI with a RBI triple.

Torrens followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Soto singled with one out and Vientos followed with a single. Soto then scored on an error and three batters later, Ewing capped off his stellar night at the plate with a bases loaded walk.

Ewing had a spectacular debut with two runs, one hit, (triple), two RBIs, three walks and one stolen base. 

Ewing is the fourth player in the last 40 years to have a triple and stolen base in his ML debut.

RHP Freddy Peralta had a scoreless top of the first and then gave up two runs in the top of the second on a solo homer by catcher Dillion Dingler and a sacrifice fly by 1B Spencer Torkelson.

Peralta gave up a lead-off double in the top of the third and then settled down retiring the next eight hitters in a row. Peralta gave up back-to back single in the top of the fifth and then made a perfect throw home after backing up Benge's poor throw to end the top of the fifth.

Peralta finished up strong with a 1-2-3 top of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, seven hits, two runs, one walk and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his third win.

LHP Brooks Raley followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Austin Warren closed it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The New York Mets are calling up top prospect 21-year old CF A.J. Ewing for tomorrow's game against the Tigers. Ewing started the season in Double-A Binghamton and was in low St. Lucie-Single A at the beginning of last year.

Ewing has played 30 games between Double-A Binghamton (18 games) Triple-A Syracuse (12 games). He is hitting .339 with a .961 OPS. Ewing has nine doubles, two triples, and two homers with 11 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Ewing has 22 walks and 17 strikeouts.

Hopefully Ewing will be able to utilize his speed in the outfield and provide energy and bring a jolt to a starting lineup that desperately needs a spark.

Ewing is known for his defense and it will be fun to watch him and fellow rookie Carson Benge in the outfield for years to come with their defense and strong arms.

Mets Lose to Diamondbacks 5-1 To Lose Series Due to Poor Offense and Sloppy Defense

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 this afternoon at Chase Field to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 15-25.

RHP Husacar Brazoban got the start as an "opener" and threw a scoreless inning.  Brazoban gave up a lead-off walk to 1B Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the second and then walked 3B Nolan Arenado and was taken out.

RHP Tobias Myers came in next and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then gave up a two-run double to LF Ryan Waldschmidt and was taken out after the inning.

LHP David Peterson came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the third and worked around an error by 3B Andy Ibanez in the bottom the fourth to throw another scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Peterson made a throwing error, but once again was able to escape out of trouble and throw a scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Peterson got immediate trouble after Ibanez made an error to start the inning and then later in the inning, gave up a RBI single to LF Ryan Waldschimidt and a two-run triple to the following hitter 2B Ketel Marte.

Peterson stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Sean Manaea threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of the top of the sixth after RF Carson Benge singled with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens followed with a RBI double.

They were unable to score any more runs after and did not capitalize with men on base. They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, May 12 back at home at Citi Field against the Detroit Tigers at 7:10 p.m.

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 this afternoon at Chase Field and dropped their record to 15-24.

Mets RHP Clay Holmes started out well with two scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.

Holmes retired the first two hitters he faced, but then gave up back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases.

Holmes then gave up a two-run single to 1B Ildemaro Vargas.

Holmes was able to settle down after that retiring the next nine hitters in a row before giving up a single to 3B Nolan Arenado with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.

Holmes's final line was 5.2 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Craig Kimbrel came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of the top of the second after 2B Marcus Semien singled and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a RBI double.

The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 tonight in 10 innings at Chase Field and improved their record to 15-23.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Mark Vientos drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the second.

The Met offense did not do much for the next seven innings  managing only three hits, but woke up in the top of the tenth.

Vientos led off and came through once again with the game-winning RBI double on the first pitch he saw.

CF Carson Benge followed with a RBI ground-rule double to score Vientos for a much needed insurance run.

RHP Nolan McLean had a solid outing outside of allowing a solo homer to 3B Nolan Arenado in the bottom of the second and shut down the Diamondbacks offense after that. McLean finished up strong with two strikeouts in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, three hits, one run, one walk and strikeouts.

RHP Luke Weaver followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning on 8 pitches to pick up second win of the season.

Mets Lose To Rockies 6-2 After Craig Kimbrel gives up game-winning grand slam in bottom of eighth

The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 6-2 this afternoon at Coors Field to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 15-22.

Mets RHP Christian Scott cruised through the first three innings and then gave up a RBI single to SS Willi Castro in the bottom of the fourth.

Scott was unable to make out of the bottom of the fourth due to a high pitch count and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

His final line was 4.2 innings, three hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Huscar Brazoban came in next and picked up last out in the bottom of the fifth and came back out for the bottom of the sixth, but was not as successful.

Brazoban gave up a one-out walk and then a wild pitch. Brazoban then had a strikeout and walk, but then gave up game-tying RBI single to CF Jake McCarthy and was taken out.

RHP Austin Warren followed and gave up a walk, before getting a strikeout to end the inning. Warren stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and had a scoreless inning.

RHP Craig Kimbrel came on in the bottom of the eighth and got into immediate trouble and gave back-to back singles to start the inning and a walk to load the bases.

It all imploded for Kimbrel after he gave up the game-winning grand slam to McCarthy.

The Met offense did all of their damage in the top of the second after RF Austin Slater led off with a single and then 2B Marcus Semien followed with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

LF Andy Ibanez drove in Slater with a sacrifice fly. Catcher Francisco Alvarez then struck out, but CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a RBI single.

The Met offense did not do much after that and were unable to score any more runs. They went 1-9 with RISP and had a chance to score in the top of the seventh, but DH Juan Soto popped out with runners on first and second with two outs.

The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 10-5 tonight at Coors Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 14-22.

The Met offense got off a fast start in the top of the first after LF Juan Soto led off with a homer.

The offense was held scoreless for the next two innings and then came alive again in the top of the fourth.

3B Brett Baty led off with a walk and then 2B Marcus Semien followed with a double. RF Carson Benge then delivered a two-run single to score Baty and Semien. DH Francisco Alvarez followed with a single to advance Benge to third and catcher Luis Torrens then drove in Benge with a RBI ground-out.

In the top of the fifth, Semien led off with a single and Benge followed with a double. Alvarez then drove in Semien with a RBI single and Torrens followed with a hit by pitch.

Soto followed with a sacrifice fly to score Benge and SS Bo Bichette followed with a RBI single to score Alvarez.

CF Tyrone Taylor then grounded into a fielder's choice and Torrens scored on an error by 2B Eduardo Julien.

In the top of the night, Semien capped off his stellar night at the plate with a two-run homer.

The game will be made up on Thursday at 3:10 p.m., which was an original off day for both teams.

Wednesday's game will now start at 9:20 p.m. instead of the original 3:10 p.m. start time.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings and then came alive in the top of the sixth.

CF Carson Benge led off with a homer and then DH Francisco Alvarez followed with a double.

Catcher Luis Torrens followed with a double of his own to score Alvarez.

LF Juan Soto then walked and SS Bo Bichette grounded out.

RF M.J. Melendez followed with a strikeout and then 1B Mark Vientos came up and broke the game open with a two-run single.

The New York Mets have placed infielder Ronny Mauricio on the 10-day IL with a fractured left thumb after he slid head first into first base in the seventh inning on Saturday night's game.

Infielder Vidal Brujan has been called up from Triple-A Syracuse as corresponding roster.

Mauricio is expected to miss 6-8 weeks according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza.

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 12-22.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings and then came alive in the top of the fourth after RF Carson Benge walked with one out and then 1B Mark Vientos followed with a two-run homer.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the eighth after 3B Brett Baty led off with a hit by pitch and then 2B Marcus Semien followed with a ground-out to the catcher which allowed Baty to advance to second.

RF Carson Benge came up next and delivered a RBI double to score Baty for a much needed insurance run.  Vientos came up next and capped off his stellar day at the plate with a two-run homer, his second of the game.

RHP Clay Holmes got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first allowing back-to-back walks to start the inning and then gave up a RBI single to RF Jorge Soler. Holmes was able to escape further trouble in the inning by getting DH Joe Adell to ground into a double play to end the threat and had a high pitch count of 27 pitches after the bottom of the first.

Holmes was able to settle down after that and retired 12 out of the last 15 hitters he faced. Holmes had help defensively after LF M.J. Melendez made a diving catch in the bottom of the sixth and Benge made a leaping catch in the bottom of the seventh. 

Holmes was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the seventh after SS Bo Bichette made a throwing error.

Holmes's final line was 6.2 innings, four hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 1.69.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and struck out pinch-hitter Yoan Moncada to end the inning.

Weaver stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

Mets Lose To Angels 4-3 in 10 Innings On Walk-off by Oswald Peraza

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 tonight at Angels Stadium and dropped their record to 11-22.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up three straight hits and the third hit created an out as RF Austin Slater threw out Jorge Soler at third. It appeared that the out occured  before1B Nathan Schanuel crossed the plate. However, for some reason, the play was not reviewed which allowed the run to stand.

McLean was able to settle down retiring seven in a row before running into more trouble in the bottom of the fourth allowing a two-run single to 2B Vaughn Grissom. McLean was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, six hits, three runs, one walk and six strikeouts.

RHP Tobias Myers followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Huasbar Brazoban came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Craig Kimbrel threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

RHP Austin Warren came in next in the bottom of the tenth and gave up a lead-off walk and single and after picking up two outs, gave up a walk-off hit to 3B Oswald Perazza.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after Slater doubles and then SS Bo Bichette drove him in on a RBI double with two outs.

The offense then came alive again in the top of the seventh after 1B Mark Vientos led off with a double and 2B Marcus Semien followed with a double.

LF Andy Ibanez followed with a sacrifice fly and after Semien stole second, CF Tyrone Taylor drove him in with a RBI single to tie the game.

They had a chance to score after loading the bases with one out, but Bichette grounded into a force play and DH Juan Soto struck out to end the threat.

In the top of the tenth, they had another scoring chance, but Bichette grounded into a double play and after Soto was intentionally walked, catcher Francisco Alvarez popped up to end the threat.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, May 3 at the Angels at 4:07 p.m.

Mets Beat Angels 4-3 To Snap Two-Game Losing Streak After Overcoming Three-Run Deficit

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 tonight at Angels Stadium to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 11-21.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings and then came alive in the top of the sixth. 3B Bo Bichette led off with an infield hit and tben LF Juan Soto followed with a single.

Two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez drove in Bichette with a RBI single. RF Brett Baty followed with a ground-out, but then 2B Marcus Semien delivered the game-tying two-run single.

In the top of the seventh, SS Ronny Mauricio delivered the game-winning solo homer.

RHP Christian Scott got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a two-run homer to DH Jorge Soler, and then bounced back with a 1-2-3 bottom of the second.

Scott was let down by his defense in the bottom of the third after Alvarez made a throwing error to allow an unearned run to score, but then settled down after that.

Scott retired the last eight batters he faced and was taken out after the bottom of the fifth.

His final line was five innings, three hits, three runs, (two earned runs), 0 walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth and picked up his second win.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh,

RHP Luke Weaver threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth and picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, May 2 at the Angels at 9:38 p.m.
