Mets Beat Tigers 3-2 on Walk-off Single By Carson Benge

The New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 17-25.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Mark Vientos singled to lead off the bottom of the second and two batters later, 3B Brett Baty singled to advance Vientos to third. CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a RBI ground-out to score Vientos.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next four innings until the bottom of the seventh after catcher Luis Torrens walked with two outs and then RF Carson Benge followed with a single. SS Bo Bichtte came up next and drove in Torrens with game-tying run.

In the bottom of the tenth, Torrens struck out to lead off the inning and then Benge drove in CF A.J. Ewing with walk-off single after Ewing started out on second base as the "ghost runner."

RHP Christian Scott allowed two runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He gave up two walks with five strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with 2.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next and threw as scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, May 14 at home against the Tigers at 1:10 p.m.
