Mets RHP Clay Holmes started out well with two scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.
Holmes retired the first two hitters he faced, but then gave up back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases.
Holmes then gave up a two-run single to 1B Ildemaro Vargas.
Holmes was able to settle down after that retiring the next nine hitters in a row before giving up a single to 3B Nolan Arenado with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.
Holmes's final line was 5.2 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks and six strikeouts.
RHP Austin Warren followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Craig Kimbrel came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
The Met offense did not do much outside of the top of the second after 2B Marcus Semien singled and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a RBI double.
In the top of the fifth, CF Tyrone Taylor doubled with two outs and then LF Juan Soto followed with an intentional walk, but SS Bo Bichette flew out to left field to end the threat.
The Met offense did not do much after that and struggled all game to get a timely hit. They went 0-2 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base,
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, May 10 at the Diamondbacks at 4:10 p.m.
