Mets Lose to Rays 6-2 Due to Struggles By Manaea and Lack of Offense

The New York Mets lost to the Tampa Bays Rays 6-2 tonight at Tropicana Field and dropped their record to 62-77.

Mets LHP Sean Manaea got into immidiate trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to DH Yandy Diaz and two batters later, a RBI single to 3B Junior Caminero.

Manaea had a scoreles bottom of the second, but ran into trouble in the third after he gave up a lead-off single by RF Victor Mesa Jr, gave up a sacifice bunt and then walked Diaz and gave up a RBI single by 1B Ryan Vilade.

Manaea was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and then it all imploded for him in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea gave up a lead-off single by LF Chandler Simpson and then a RBI double to the following hitter catcher Nick Fortes.

After a ground-out, Manaea gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Taylor Walls and then a solo homer to Diaz and a triple to Vilade and was then taken out.

Manaea's final line was 5.2 innings, 11 hits, five runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren came in next and picked up last out in the inning.

RHP Dylan Ross followed in the bottom of the seventh in his season debut and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Jefty Yan came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a single and double and two outs, was by a line drive on a comebacker and then tried to get the runner out at home but was unable to do so.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer and later in the inning, 3B Bo Bichette and RF Carson Benge singled. However, 1B Jared Young struck out and 2B Brett Baty flew out to left to end the inning.

The offense did not do much for the next few innings and then had a golden opportunity to score in the top of the seventh after Young led off with a walk and 2B Marcus Semien followed with a walk. Two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing walked to load the bases with one out.

Pinch-hittera Mark Vientos came up and fouled out to the catcher and then Lindor drew a based loaded walk. DH Juan Soto came up next with the based loaded and two outs, but popped out to third.

The Met offense struggled all night with men on base and were unable to come up with any clutch hits and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 2 at the Rays at 6:40 p.m.
