Mets Lose to Orioles 2-1 And Waste Outstanding Start by Jonah Tong

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 69-81.

Mets RHP Jonah Tong made his second start of the season and had an outstanding start outside of a RBI double by RF Heston Kjerstad in the top of the second.

Tong's final line was six innings, four hits, one run, (0 earned runs), one walk and six strikeouts. Tong had outstanding movement and command of his fastball and change-up. He lowered his ERA to 3.43.

RHP Jonathan Pintaro followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next in the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to SS Gunnar Henderson.

RHP Kodai Senga followed in the top of the ninth and worked around runners on the corner with one out by getting back-to-back strikeouts.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by CF A.J. Ewing in the bottom of the fourth.

They managed only six hits and were unable to get any clutch hits with men on base. They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base,

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 15 at home against the Orioles at 7:10 p.m.
