Mets vs. Brewers Game 49 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler


The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 8-7 today to drop three out of four games in the series and drop their record to 25-24. RHP Zack Wheeler had a rough beginning giving up back-to-back singles to CF Lorenzo Cain and LF Christian Yelich in the bottom of the first inning and then he allowed a RBI single to 1B Jesus Aguilar. After that, he retired the next 3 batters in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second inning, Wheeler bounced back with a 1-2-3 inning, but struggled again in the bottom of the third inning after he walked Cain and then gave up a single to Yelich and a game-tying three run homer to Aguilar.  He settled down after that and finished up strong with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. His final line was four runs on six hits, two walks, and six strikeouts in six innings. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next in the bottom of the seventh and got pinch-hitter Ryan Braun to fly out to RF to lead off the inning. Gsellman gave up a single to Cain and then a groundout to Yelich. He was taken out after he walked Aguilar. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and gave up an RBI single to 1B Travis Shaw, which was the only batter he faced. RHP Paul Sewald came in and gave up a two-run double to RF Domingo Santana in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sewald stayed in and pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The offense went scoreless in the top of the first inning, but catcher Tomas Nido drove in a run with an RBI single in the top of the second. Wheeler followed with a two-run single and then 2B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a RBI double. In the top of the fifth inning, In the top of the fifth inning, RF Jay Bruce hit a RBI single. In the top of the seventh inning, Cabrera hit a solo homer.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the  Atlanta Braves at 1:10 P.M.
