This was the Mets first sweep since mid-April and their first at Citi Field since the 2016 season. The offense was held scoreless and shut down by the Diamondbacks starter RHP Clay Bucholtz for the first five innings and had one hit. In the bottom of the sixth inning, SS Amed Rosario drove home the first run with a solo homer , his first in 213 plate appearance which snapped his 0-12 slump. Rosario followed with another homer to deep center field. He is the youngest Met at 22 years and 181 days to have a multi-homer game since Lastings Miledge in 2007.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd worked out a walk and stolen base in the top of the first inning and had two strikeouts. In the second inning, Syndergarrd gave up singles to CF Jarrod Dyson and SS Nick Ahmed before giving up an RBI groundout to catcher Jeff Mathis. In the top of the third inning, he settled down and had 1-2-3 inning on 12 pitches. In the top of the fourth inning, Syndergarrd had to work a little harder throwing 18 pitches with two full counts and a bunt hit, but still managed to have a scoreless inning. In the top of the fifth inning, he had work out an error by 3B Wilmer Flores who botched a routine grounder by catcher Jeff Mathis to lead off the inning. He had some help from his defense in the fifth after RF Jay Bruce threw Mathis out trying to score. In the top of the sixth inning, he had a 12-pitch scoreless inning, which included a pickoff of 1B Paul Goldschmidt and a strikeout of 2B Daniel Descalso. In the top of the seventh inning, Syndegarrd gave up a leadoff single to Dyson, but then struck out Ahmed and got Maths to hit another ground-out. He retired pinch-hitter Ketel Marte to end the inning and was then taken out. His final line was: one run, six hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win of the season. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next in his first relief appearance in over a week and retired the only batter he faced LF Daniel Peralta. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and got the last two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Gsellman stayed in for the top of the ninth and got the last three outs, for a five-out save, his first on the season.
