The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 12-1 today and dropped their record to 20-19. RHP Zack Wheeler got the start and had a mixed outing. Wheeler looked good through in the first three innings allowing one run with six strikeouts. In the top of the fourth inning, he started to struggled and gave up a two-run home to RF Teoscar Hernandez. In the top of the fifth inning, Wheeler gave up a two-run double to 1B Justin Smoak. His final line was: six runs on seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in four innings. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the fifth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos followed and gave up three runs in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to 3B Josh Donaldson, RBI single to Hernandez and RBI single to CF Kevin Pillar. RHP Jacob Rhyme had to come in to get the last out in the top of the sixth inning and a scoreless top of the seventh inning. LHP Buddy Baumann gave up three runs in two innings on a three-run homer to SS Richard Urena in the top of the ninth inning.
The offense was lifeless all day and had four hits. LF Brandon Nimmo drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at 7:10 P.M.
