RHP Jacob deGrom was dominant from the start with 1-2-3 top of the first inning and two strikeouts. In the top of the second inning, deGrom had another 1-2-3 inning, including a strikeout of 1B Paul Goldschmidt. In the top of the third inning, he gave up a leadoff single to catcher Alex Avila and a groundout to CF Jerrod Dyson, but escaped further starting pitcher RHP Zack Godley flew out and LF Daniel Peralta struck out to end the inning. In the top of the fourth inning, deGrom struck out the side after striking out LF Steven Souza Jr, 3B Jake Lamb and Goldschmidt. In the top of the fifth inning, he gave up a leadoff single to LF Daniel Peralta, but then struck out the next two batters. He gave up a two-out single to CF Jerome Dyson, but stuck out Godley to end the inning. In the top of the sixth inning, deGrom gave up a run on an RBI double to Lamb, but was thrown out trying to advance to third base. He struck out Goldschmidt to end the inning. deGrom came back out for the top of the seventh inning, and gave up a leadoff double to Descalso, and then advanced to third on a groundout by SS Ketel Marte. He buckled down and struck out Avila and got Dyson to pop out to end the inning. His final line was one run on six hits with no walks and a career-high 13 strikeouts in seven innings. He picked up his fourth win on the season. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and had to throw only 8 pitches for a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia closed it out by striking out the side in the top of the ninth inning and picked up his 13th save on the season.
The Mets next game is at 7:10 P.M. tomorrow night against the Diamondbacks.
