The New York Mets have signed outfielder Jose Batista to a one-year deal. Infielder Phillip Evans has been sent to Triple-A Las Vegas as a corresponding roster move. Bautista hit .143 in 40 at-bats for the Atlanta Braves this year. Last year with the Toronto Blue Jays, he hit .203 in 157 games. Bautista gives the Mets a veteran right-handed bat off the bench and a threat late in games. They are hoping that he can provide some power and pop in the outfield in the absence of Yoenis Cespedes.
