In the top of the third inning with two outs, Cabrera walked and Cespedes singled, but Gonzalez struck out to end the inning. Phillies starter RHP Jake Arrieta retired 9 hitters in a row until Gonzalez singled in the top of the sixth. In the top of the seventh inning, Conforto walked to lead off the inning, but was erased after Mesoraco grounded into a double play. Jose Reyes came in to pinch run for Mesoraco, but was picked off first base to end the inning. In the top of the eighth inning, Cabrera singled with two out, but then Cespedes grounded into a fielder choice. In the top of the inning, 3B Wilmer Flores singled with one out. Conforto hit a two-run homer to right field to give the Mets the lead. Mesoraco jumped on the next pitch with a solo homer which provided a much needed insurance run.

LHP Steven Matz started out well with two strikeouts in the bottom of the first inning, but gave up a solo homer to CF Odubel Herrera and walked LF Rhys Hoskins before getting 1B Carlos Santana to ground out to end the inning. Matz gave up singles to 3B Maikel Franco and catcher Jorge Alfaro in the second, but escaped further trouble after he got Arrieta to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. He gave up a single and walk in the bottom of the third inning, but got out of trouble again after Hoskins and Santana both flew out. In the bottom of the fourth inning, SS Scott Kingery singled with one out, but a 6-4-3 double play helped Matz get out of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, he gave up a one out walk to LF Aaron Altheer and then got Herrera to ground into a fielder's choice. He then hit Hoskins with a pitch to load the bases, but escaped out of another jam after Santana flew out with the based loaded and was taken out after that. Matz's final line was: five innings, one run on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks and wound up with a no-decision. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Paul Sewald had two strikeouts in a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP A.J Ramos pitched 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning and picked up his second win. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 11th save on the season.
