The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 this afternoon to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 28-31 and finished with a 1-5 record on their West Coast trip. LHP Steven Matz was greeted rudely in the bottom of the first inning after CF Ketel Marte lead-off with a homer that went 482 feet. It was the longest home run ever hit a Diamondback in the Statcast era. LF Tim Locastro followed with a single and SS Eduardo Escobar followed with a two-run homer. Matz settled down after that until the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Esbocar and RF Adam Jones singled. 1B Christian Walker droe in Escobar with an RBI single. 2B Ildermo Vargas followed with another RBI single. Matz's final line was five runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings. RHP Wilmer Font came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Hector Santigo followed in the bottom of the eighth and recorded the first two outs. RHP Tyler Bashlor appeared next and loaded the bases and gave up a two-run single to Marte.

Catcher Wilson Ramos drove in the only run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the second inning. Other than that, the offense was shut down against Diamondbacks starter RHP Merril Kelly  who gave up one run on six hits with no walks and ten strikeouts.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at Citi Field on Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
