The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 9-3 tonight in 10 innings and dropped their record to 28-32. Syndergarrd gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Evan Longaria and then gave up singles to RF Brandon Belt and RF Kevin Pillar. In the top of the seventh inning, he gave up a single to pinch-hitter Pablo Sandoval and was taken out in a double switch with two outs in the inning. His final line was three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and gave up an RBI double to Belt. Lugo stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning. The offense was shut down for the five innings against Giants LHP Madison Bumgarter until the bottom of the sixth inning after 1B Pete Alonso led off the inning with a homer, RF Michael Conforto flew out, LF J.D. Davis worked out a nine-pitch walk and catcher Wilson Ramos followed with a two-run homer. After that the bats were shut down by the Giants bullpen and failed to capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
