Mets RHP Walker Lockett (Credits MetsMerizedOnline.com)

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-4 tonight and dropped their record to 35-40. RHP Walker Lockett made his Met debut and started out well with two perfect innings, but ran intro trouble in the bottom of the third. Lockett gave up six runs on five hits and recorded only one out and was taken out. RHP Brooks Pounders had to come in and gave up an inherited run, but was able to finish the inning with two strikeouts. RHP Wilmer Font followed and gave the pen length with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up a solo homer to SS Javier Baez in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Stephen Nogosek made his second big league appearance in the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.
The offense got on the board in the top the second inning after CF Carlos Gomez grounded into a double play with bases loaded. In the top of the third inning, LF Jeff McNeil singled to lead off teh inning and 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer, his 25th of the season. After that, the bats were shut down by Cubs starter RHP Adbert Alzolay in his MLB debut and weren't able to score any more runs.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Cubs at 2:20 p.m.
