Mets vs. Braves Game 73 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 10-2 tonight and improved their record to 35-38. The offense broke through in the top of the third inning after LF Jeff McNeil and 1B Pete Alonso doubled to make it 1-0. 2B Robinson Cano walked and RF Michael Conforto drove in Alonso with another RBI double and 3B Todd Frazier followed with a RBI ground-out. SS Amed Rosario hit a RBI ground-out. In the top of the fourth inning, McNeil hit an infield single and Alonso hit a two-run homer, his 24th of the season. In the top of the sixth inning, RHP Jacob deGrom doubled to lead off the inning and Alonso walked a few batters later and 2B Robinson Cano hit a RBI double. Two batters later, Frazier drew a based loaded walk. In the top of the eighth, Conforto hit a solo homer. In the top of the ninth, McNeil hit a solo homer.

RHP Jacob deGrom was is complete control all night and was outstanding and had command of all his pitches. He was mixing in his curveball, change-up and sliders well along with his fastball topping out at 99 mph. degrom cruised though the first eight innings and went out for the bottom of the ninth. He gave up back-to-back homers to 1B Freddie Freeman and 3B Josh Donaldon and was then taken out. His final line was 8.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 10 strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.26. RHP Robert Gsellman had to come in to get the last two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.
