Mets vs. Cardinals Game 69 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 9-5 tonight and dropped their record to 33-36.  LHP Steven Matz gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings. RHP Robert Gsellman followed with a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia's struggles continued in the top of the eighth after he gave up a game-tying solo homer to SS Paul DeJong and a three-run homer to RF Dexter Fowler later in the inning. LHP Hector Santiago gave up a solo homer to pinch-hitter Kolten Wong in the top of the ninth inning. The Met bullpen leads the Majors with 15 blown saves.

3B Todd Frazier hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and drove in 1B Pete Alonso. In the bottom of the fifth inning, LHP Steven Matz helped out his own cause with a solo homer. Alonso drove in a run after he grounded into a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh inning and catcher Wilson Ramos hit a two-run single later in the inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.
