The New York Mets announced today that they have fired pitching coach Dave Eiland and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez. Eiland was hired prior to the 2018 season and was under contract until 2020. Under Eiland, the pitching staff struggled this season with a 4.70 ERA, which is ranked 20th out of 30 MLB teams and third highest in the National League. The bullpen had a 4.82 ERA. Hernandez was in his first year as bullpen coach. 82-year old Phil Regan will take over as new pitching coach and Ricky Bones will return as bullpen coach. Regan has worked in the Met organization previously as a minor league pitching coordinator and is familiar with many of the pitchers on the staff.
