Mets vs. Braves Game 74 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 7-2 tonight to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 35-39 and have now fallen to fourth place in the National League East. LHP Steven Matz pitched well through the first five innings allowing two runs on a two-run homer to 1B Freddie Freeman but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. Matz gave up four consecutive hits to start the inning including a two-homer to 3B Josh Donaldson and a RBI double to 2B Ozzie Albies. He was then taken out without recording an out. RHP Chris Flexen followed and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. RHP Stephen Nogosek made his Met debut in the bottom of the eighth inning and got two outs and gave up a couple of baserunners before being pulled. LHP Daniel Zamora followed and gave up a two-run double to RF Nick Markakis and then retired CF Ronald Acuna Jr to end the inning.

2B Jeff McNeil doubled to lead off the game, stole third base and scored on an RBI ground-out by RF Michael Conforto. In the top of the fourth inning, catcher Wilson Ramos and shortstop Amed Rosario doubled  with two outs to tie the game at two, but Rosario was thrown out at third base trying to stretch it to a triple. Ramos singled with one out in the top of the sixth, but LF J.D. Davis was thrown out by a mile at home plate trying to score.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m. in Chicago at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.
