Mets vs. Tigers Game 50 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Detroit Tigers 9-8 tonight and dropped their record to 24-26. RHP Noah Syndergarrd had a difficult outing allowing six runs on ten hits with nine strikeouts and one walk in 5.1 innings.  He was hurt by the long ball with two homers. It's been an inconsistent year for Syndergarrd after he started out well in four starts in May with a 2.40 ERA. He has to pitch better along with Jacob deGrom and Zack Wheeler in order for the team to become a contender. RHP Tyler Bashlor came in next and gave up game tying run on a sacrifice fly by LF Christin Stewart, but was able to limit the damage after that and lowered his ERA to 0.93. RHP Drew Gagnon has his worst outing the year in the top of the seventh after he walked 1B Miguel Cabrera, gave up a double to catcher John Hicks and a two-run double to CF JaCoby Jones and then a RBI single to pinch-hitter Brandon Dixon. RHP Jeurys Familia followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Hector Santiago threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until SS Amed Rosario hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. 1B Pete Alonso doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning and catcher Wilson Ramos hit an RBI single. RF Rajaj Davis singled later in the inning and 2B Adeiny Hechavarria hit a three-run homer. Alonso hit a solo homer his 17th in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, pinch-hitter Aaron Altheer hit a solo homer in his first Met at-bat.  Catcher Wilson Ramos hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Tigers at 4:10 p.m.
