Mets vs. Dodgers Game 55 Recap

The New York Mets had a heartbreaking 9-8 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last night and dropped their record to 27-28. RHP Noah Syndergarrd didn't have his best stuff and allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up an RBI single to 3B Justin Turner.  RHP Jeurys Familia gave up a solo homer to SS Cory Seager in the bottom of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning for the save and had his worst outing of the season. Diaz gave up back-to-back homers to LF Joc Peterson and 2B Max Muncy and then a double to Turner and an RBI single to RF Cody Bellinger. He gave up an intentional walk to Seager and a single to 1B Max Beaty and then finally a game-winning walk off sac fly to Alex Verdugo.

The offense got on the board early in the top of the first inning after LF Dom Smith singled and 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer. In the top of the second inning, 3B Todd Frazier singled and two batters SS Adeiny Hechavarria hit a RBI double. In the top of the fifth, Smith singled again and Alonso hit a two-run homer, his 19th of the year. In the top of the sixth, Frazier lead off with a double and Heccavaria drove him in with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh inning, Smith and SS Amed Rosario hit back-to-back solo homers.

The Mets next game is tonight at the Dodgers at 10:10 p.m.
