The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 this afternoon for a three-game sweep and dropped their record to 16-18. LHP Jason Vargas started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third inning giving up a lead-off double to catcher Manny Pina and then gave a line drive double to SS Orlando Arcia that right fielder Keon Broxton should have caught. Vargas struck out Brewers starter RHP Zach Davies and then gave up a sacrifice fly to CF Lorenzo Cain and a two-run homer to RF Christian Yelich. He threw a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning and was then taken out after the inning with 50 pitches due to hamstring tightness. His final line was 4 innings, 3 ER, 3 hits, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Tim Peterson came in next and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Peterson stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and gave up a double to 1B Jesus Aguilar and struck out 2B Hernan Perez and was then taken out. LHP Daniel Zamora appeared to next to face lefty 3B Travis Shaw and retired him on a fly out and was pulled for RHP Tyler Bashlor. Bashlor got Manny Pina on a long fly out to end the inning and stayed for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

The offense was held scoreless until the top of the fourth after RF Keon Broxton hit a ground-rule double with one out and catcher Tomas Nido drove him with an RBI double. CF Juan Lagares drove in the other run with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
