Mets vs. Nationals Game 40 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 6-2 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 20-20. RHP Noah Syndergarrd was terrific allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in eight innings. He picked up his third win. Syndegarrd was in command all night at one point retiring 12 hitters in a row. He had good life on his fastball as well as a sharp curveball and mixed in a change-up as well and was able to avoid using his slider. He was able to get quick outs, which  kept his pitch count down. His only mistake was a two-run homer to CF Victor Robles in the bottom of the sixth. He has pitched well in two out of his last three starts. If Syndegarrd can become consistent, it makes the rotation even stronger with him and Jacob deGrom at the top of the rotation. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning with a couple of strikeouts.

The offense got on the board early in the top of the first after SS Amed Rosario and 1B Pete Alonso singled and RF Michael Conforto walked. Catcher Wilson Ramos came to the plate with the based loaded and broke out of his slump with a grand slam. After that the bats went quiet until the top of the sixth after Conforto singled and Ramos walked. CF Brandon Nimmo drove in Conforto with a RBI single. In the top of the ninth inning, Dom Smith pinch-hit for Noah Syndergarrd and hit a solo homer for his first homer of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Nationals at 7:05 p.m.
