Mets vs. Nationals Game 41 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 5-1 tonight and dropped their record to 20-21. RHP Wilmer Font made his second start in a Met uniform and had a difficult outing allowing five runs on six hits with two walks and one home run in 2 1/3 innings. RHP Drew Gagnon came in next to replace Font and did a fine job throwing 2 2/3 shutout innings with three hits and one walk and one strikeout. RHP Tyler Bashlor followed in the bottom of the sixth inning and threw two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The bats were shutout by Nationals LHP Patrick Corbin and had their best scoring opportunity in the top of the third inning after CF Juan Lagares singled and LF Jeff McNeil walked. 3B J.D. Davis drove in Lagares with an RBI double and 2B Robinson Cano grounded out to end the inning. The only other hits were a single by reliever RHP Drew Gagnon and a single by McNeil in the top of the eighth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Nationals at 1:05 p.m in the final game of the series.
