The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 4-1 tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 19-20. RHP Jacob deGrom had his third straight excellent start allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings. deGrom's only run came in the top of the third inning after Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara hit an RBI double. He lowered his ERA to 3.26. deGrom had a lot of life on his fastball and mixed in his slider and curveball well. He picked up his third win. RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless top of the ninth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his tenth save.
The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until 2B Robinson Cano led off with a single and two batters later RF Michael Conforto drove him in with an RBI single. In the bottom of the sixh inning, 1B Pete Alonso broke the tie with a solo homer and Conforto followed with a homer. In the bottom of the sixth, CF Brandon Nimmo walked, catcher Tomas Nido singled and Jacob deGrom helped out his own cause with an RBI single.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Marlins at 1:10 p.m,
