Mets vs. Marlins Game 38 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 11-2 tonight to improve their record to 18-20 after losing five out of six games in their previous roadtrip against the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres. The offense got on the board quickly after they scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning for the first time in 40 years and had a season high 15 hits. LF Jeff McNeil led off with a bunt single and 3B J.D. Davis followed with a single. Davis later scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Catcher Wilson Ramos drove in a run with an infield hit with the based loaded and CF Brandon Nimmo walked with the based loaded to bring him the third run. SS Amed Rosario broke the game open with a grand slam to dead center field and make it 7-0. 2B Robinson Cano drove in McNeil with an RBI double later in the inning to make it 8-0.  RF Michael Conforto hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second. McNeil hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third. Nimmo hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

RHP Zack Wheeler had a strong outing with two runs on nine hits in seven innings. Wheeler had 11 strikeouts and one walk. It was his second consecutive start with double digit strikeouts the first time he's done it in his career and third overall this year. He picked up his third win. RHP Tyler Bashlor followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Daniel Zamora closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
