The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 3-0 today for their fifth consecutive loss to get swept in the three game series and dropped their record to 20-25. RHP Noah Syndergarrd dominated through the first five innings with five perfect innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth after CF Rosell Herrera doubled to lead off the inning. Marlins starter RHP Sandy Alcantara moved Herrera to third base after a successful sacrifice bunt and LF Curtis Granderson grounded into a double play to bring in a run. In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Neil Walker doubled leading off the inning and advanced to third base on a ground-out. SS Miguel Rojas drove in Walker on a sacrifice fly. Syndergarrd was taken out after the inning. His final line was two runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to LF Curtis Granderson.
The offense was shutdown against Marlins starter RHP Sandy Alcantara who came into this game with a 5.11 ERA. Alcantara threw his first complete-game shutout. He was efficient due to him throwing only 89 pitches. He allowed two hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. 3B J.D. Davis had the only two hits. This is the first time since 1967 that the Mets were held to two hits or less in two consecutive games. The only other time this occurred was in 1965.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night back at home at Citi Field against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
