The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 6-1 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 23-25. The offense was shutdown by Nationals starter RHP Max Scherizer for the first seven innings, but finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth. 2B Adeiny Hechavarria doubled with one out, 3B Todd Frazier walked with two outs and RF Carlos Gomes was hit by a pitch to load the bases. CF Juan Lagares then stepped up to the plate and came through with a bases clearing double. Catcher Wilson Ramos followed with an intentional walk. 38 year old pinch hitter Raja Davis made his first appearance after joining the team today and made a huge first impression with a three-run homer to break the game open. Davis became the oldest and 11th player in Mets player to hit a homer in his first at-bat.

RHP Jacob deGrom gave up a solo homer to RF Adam Eaton two batters into the game in the top of the first inning. deGrom settled down after that early homer and one point retired 11 Nationals in a row before 1B Matt Adams singled in the top of the fifth. His final line was one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and three walks in six innings. He wound up with a no-decision. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and threw a 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Gagnon followed with a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning and picked up his third win. RHP Tyler Bashlor closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

Injury News
2B Robinson Cano left the game with quad tightness after pulling up on a grounder in the bottom of the third inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Nationals at 12:10 p.m.
