The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 7-6 tonight to snap their four-game losing streak and improved their record to 17-19. The offense got on the board quickly in the top of the first inning after LF Jeff McNeil doubled to lead off the game and then SS Amed Rosario singled. 2B Robinson Cano drove in McNeil with an RBI ground-out double for his career 2,500 hit and 1B Pete Alonso followed with an RBI single. After that the bats went quickly until the top of the seventh after McNeil led off the inning with a walk and Rosario drove him in with an RBI double. Cano struck out, but Alonso drove in Rosario with an RBI single. RF Michael Conforto followed with a sacrifice fly. Two batters latter, RF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI double to tie the game.  In the top of the ninth inning, Cano hit an infield single and Alonso hit a two-run homer. This was a huge hit for Alonso since he has been slumping and he said this was a must win game.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had a difficult outing after a dominant performance with 6 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), BB and 5 K's. He was hurt by some poor defense and a couple of homers, but got through six. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning and also threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth with a couple of strikeouts. He picked up his second win. RHP Edwin Diaz had a shaky bottom of the ninth inning after he loaded the bases, but struck out LF Hunter Renfroe for the last out and picked up his ninth save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Padres at 3:40 p.m.
