The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-5 last night and dropped their record to 26-27. RHP Jacob deGrom didn't have his best stuff and gave up two runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts in five innings. deGrom had a high pitch count and wasn't nearly as sharp with his location as he was last year. He had trouble putting hitters away, which lead to deep counts and an elevated pitch count. It's been a frustrating year for him and he needs to get back to painting the corners. RHP Tyler Bashlor came in next in the bottom of the sixth inning and gave up a game-tying solo homer to 2B Chris Tyler. Bashlor then gave up back-to-back hits to catcher Russel Martin and pinch-hitter David Freese. He was then taken out and then LHP Daniel Zamora gave up a three-run homer to 2B Enrique Hernandez. It only got worse for Zamora after he gave up a single to 1B Max Muncy and a double to 3B Justin Turner. He walked RF Cody Bellinger to load the bases and then allowed a sac fly to SS to Cory Seager. Zamora gave up another sac fly to CF Alex Verdugo and then got out of the inning. RHP Wilmer Font followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Gagnon came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up singles to Verdugo and Bellinger and then an RBI single to Chris Taylor.
SS Amed Rosario lead off with a double and scored on an RBI single by 1B Pete Alonso. 3B Todd Frazier also singled later in the inning, but RF Michael Conforto was thrown out by Cody Bellinger. In the top of the third inning, LF J.D. Davis hit a two-run homer. In the top of the eighth inning, 2B Adeiny Hechavarria hit a two-run homer, and then the offense rallied to load the bases. 3B J.D. Davis flew out to Cody Bellinger, but Bellinger threw RF Carlos Gomez out at third base before the runner crossed home plate, so the run didn't count and that ended any chance of a comeback.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Dodgers at 10:10 p.m
