Mets vs. Yankees Game 60 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 4-1 tonight for their seventh consecutive loss and dropped their record to 27-33. RHP Jacob deGrom started out well in the top of the first inning getting 1B Greg Byrd to ground into a double play after he walked RF Aaron Judge. deGrom cruised through the next two innings and gave up his first hit to CF Brett Gardner in the top of the fourth inning then got Judge to ground into a double player and struck out Bird to end the inning. In the top of the fifth inning, he struck out LF Giancarlo Stanton, catcher Gary Sanchez and then SS Didi Gregarious grounded out to end the inning. deGrom struck out 3B Miguel Andujar to begin the top of the sixth, and then opposing pitcher Masohiro Tanaka reached on base after an error by 1B Adrian Gonzalez. 2B Gleybar Torres singled and then Gardner walked to load the bases. Judge drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. He struck out Bird to end the sixth and had 1-2-3 top of the seventh. In the top of the eighth inning, deGrom gave up a two-out single to Torres and then a two-run homer Gardner. His final line was three runs (two earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks for his first loss of the season.  RHP Paul Sewald came in the top of the ninth inning and gave up a solo homer to Stanton.

The offense got off to a fast start after RF Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo homer. The bats then went quiet and were retired in order in the bottom of the second, third, and fourth innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, RF Jay Bruce walked to lead off the fifth inning, but catcher Devin Mesoraco grounded into a double play and Gonzalez struck out to end the inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, they went 1-2-3 again this time against reliever Jonathan Holder after Tanaka was taken out after he had discomfort in both hamstrings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, 3B Todd Frazier had the first hit since Nimmo's homer with a two-out single and then Bruce singled as well, but Mesoraco struck out to end the inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, RHP Dellin Betances had a dominating inning and in the bottom of the ninth inning, Nimmo led off after he was hit a pitch and then 2B Asdrubal Cabrea reached base on a swinging bunt, but that was the end of the threat. CF Michael Conforto lined out to Gardner, Frazier was robbed on a line drive by Andujar and Bruce popped out to end the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Yankees at 7:15 P.M.
