RHP Jacob deGrom
|
The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-0 this afternoon for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 28-36. RHP Jacob deGrom got the start and had another incredible outing. deGrom dominated with three scoreless innings and gave up an RBI single to 1B Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the fourth inning. He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Degrom was taken out after the bottom of the seventh inning with 86 pitches. His final line was one run on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings. His ERA is now 1.55. This has been a recurring theme for deGrom all season where he has an awesome outing wasted by poor run support. He should have a much better record than 4-2. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and gave up a solo homer to Freeman in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The offense struggled once again and was held hitless for the first six innings. CF Michael Conforto broke up the no-hitter with a single in the top of the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth inning, 1B Dominic Smith walked with one out, but wasn't able to advance any further. In the top of the ninth inning, Conforto walked with one out and LF Brandon Nimmo doubled with two outs, but RF Jay Bruce popped out to end the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at 9:40 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
